Wilma E. Shick

Wilma E. Shick, 86, formerly of Galion died Wednesday, February 17, 2016 at Swan Creek Healthcare Center in Toledo after living with her daughter in Holland, Ohio in recent years.



She was born June 13, 1929 in Belle Center, Ohio to the late Theodore “Ted” and Helen (Patrick) Royer. After graduating from Belle Center High School, she attended beauty school and married Stanley A. Shick after his Army service on August 22, 1948. Stanley worked installing gas pipelines and the Shicks chose to settle in Galion. Wilma was the bookkeeper for Shick’s Heating and Electric in Galion which she and Stanley owned and operated for 42 years. Stan preceded her in death on May 3, 2007.



Wilma nurtured several children over the years, many who called her “grandma.” She loved baking pies and cookies, gardening, and working outdoors. She was supportive through Stan’s involvement in the Rotary and Shrine Clubs and volunteered for over 30 years with the Red Cross. She was the top female blood donor in Galion for many years. Wilma was a member of the former St. Mark United Methodist Church before worshiping with the Iberia UMC and the Holland Free Methodist Church since moving there.



Wilma is survived by two children, Larry (Sheri) Shick of Mansfield and Patty (Steve) Bersinger of Holland; and six grandchildren, Mike and Steve Shick and Amanda, Luke, Gretchen, and Marta Bersinger. In addition to her parents and husband of 58 years, she was preceded in death by siblings, Ted Royer, Jr., John Royer, and Betty Park.



The Shick family will receive friends at Wise Funeral Service, 129 W. Warren St. in Bucyrus on Sunday, February 21 from 4-6 pm. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am Monday at Iberia UMC, 3664 Ohio 309 with Pastors Pat Fruth and Keith Simpson officiating. Burial will follow in Fairview Cemetery, Galion.



Contributions may be given in lieu of flowers to Iberia UMC or Red Cross Galion Chapter through the funeral home and memories and photos can be shared on Wilma’s Tribute Wall.
