William “Bill” Sharrock, 84, longtime resident of Bucyrus, died Tuesday, July 26, 2016 at Treasure Coast Hospice in Fort Pierce, Florida.
He was born in Bucyrus to the late Ivan and Wilma (Seyler) Sharrock and graduated from Bucyrus High in 1950. He spent three years in the US Army in Germany. He met Dolores A Hoffman at a BINGO game and they were married April 3, 1954.
Bill worked at Swan Rubber for 34 years in both Bucyrus and Stillwater, Oklahoma. He studied management at the Mansfield OSU branch and at Oklahoma State University. After retirement, he worked for Bucyrus Blades for 13 years and retired a second time. He also worked part time for Garvin’s service station and Fisher Auto Parts.
Bill was a member of Holy Trinity Catholic Church. He coached Little League Baseball and basketball at Holy Trinity School. He was a former member of various service clubs including the American Legion and Knights of Columbus. He will be remembered for his love of the outdoors including hunting, immaculate yardwork and camping. He and Dolores enjoyed traveling all over the US and Canada, visiting exchange students in Europe, and attending grandchildren’s and great grandchildren’s events. His most memorable trip was the privilege of visiting Washington, DC with the Honor Flight Network. He rooted for the Cleveland Browns and Indians and loved to collect baseball cards, coins, and ink pens Bill had a famous sweet tooth and always had a measuring tape close at hand.
Bill is survived by his wife of 62 years, Dolores Sharrock; four children, Jay of N. Swanzey, New Hampshire, Melanie Adams of Reynoldsburg, Dave of Crestline, and Charlene (Gregg) Ley of Bucyrus; grandchildren, Trent, Jessalynn, Jerika, Nicholas, Melissa, Matthew, and Adrianna; great grandchildren, Jeffrey, Elizabeth, Alexis, Logan, Laila, Carter, Lachlan, Tresten, Isabella, and Liliana; brother, Jim of Oklahoma; sister, Lois (Bobby) Manderson of Ontario; many nieces and nephews; dear friends, Kevin Weaver, Amanda Bachtell, Brianna Hoover, Army buddy Jim Bedinghaus, Tina Sharrock, Jeff Wagner, Jerry & Mary Clark, and Lydia Heinlen; and his pet companions, Maya & Quannik.
In addition to his parents, Bill was preceded in death by grandson, S.Sgt. Justin Adams; great grandson, Noah; and brother, Charles Sharrock.
Bill requested no calling hours. His Funeral Mass will be held Saturday, July 30 at Holy Trinity Church in Bucyrus at 10:30 am. Burial will follow in Holy Trinity Cemetery with military rites by the US Army And American Legion Post 181 Honor Guards.
Memorial donations are requested to go to Holy Trinity Catholic Church or Crestline St. Joseph School through Wise Funeral Service, 129 W. Warren St., Bucyrus. Memories can be shared on Bill’s Tribute Wall.
