Warren E. 'Tony' Smith

Warren E. 'Tony' Smith, a sinner who was saved by God'™s grace was welcomed home Thursday, May 26, 2011. His death occurred at Bucyrus Community Hospital where he was surrounded by family. He was born at his family'™s farmhouse in Bucyrus on February 26, 1921 to the late E. Earl and Amanda Elizabeth (Bonen) Smith. Tony was a 1939 graduate of North Robinson High School and attended Multnomah University in Portland, Oregon. On May 17, 1942 he married Martha May Kocher who survives him. Warren was a hardworking and passionate man who enjoyed giving his time to others. He was a longtime farmer and Angus Cattle owner and breeder. He was a member of numerous Angus cattle associations, specifically serving as a president for the Ohio Angus Association. In 2000 he and Martha received the Distinguished Service Award from the Ohio Angus Association. Warren also worked at Timken for thirty years. Warren had an incredibly strong personal relationship with Jesus. In 1948 he accepted Christ as his personal savior. Warren was one of the founding persons in the forming of Calvary Baptist Church and Wayside Chapel, where he was a member. He was a longtime Sunday school teacher and served as a trustee and deacon at Wayside. Warren enjoyed hunting fox and coon; building things and eating homemade ice cream; but mostly he enjoyed family reunions and watching his grandchildren in the activities. In addition to his wife of 69 years, Warren is survived by seven children, Richard (Marjorie) Smith of Bucyrus, Kathleen (Hugh M.) Atwell of Ft. Worth, Texas, Earl (Joan) Smith of Bucyrus, Jane (Mike) Korner of Bucyrus, Roger (Susan) Smith of Columbia, N.C., Glenn (Molly) Smith of Ashland, Ohio and Carol (Gary) Hutchinson of Hebron, Ohio; twenty-one grandchildren and spouses; thirty-five great grandchildren and two sisters, Marie Arthur of Columbus, Ohio and Ruth Roden of Greeley, Colorado. He is preceded in death by four brothers, Robert, William, Ernest and Richard Smith and a sister, Irene Malotto. Family will receive friends from 1 '“ 3 and 6 '“ 8 PM Sunday, May 29 at Wise Funeral Service. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 PM Monday, May 30 at Wayside Chapel with Pastor Timothy Compton officiating. Burial will follow in Campbell Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family request that contributions be given to Wayside Christian School or to Gideon International through the funeral home.
