Tiffy McCarthy

Kathlyn Jane McCarthy, 73, who was better known as Tiffy, died Tuesday, April 10, 2018 at her home. She had recently been diagnosed with lung cancer but her death was very unexpected.

She was born April 14, 1944 in Montague, Massachusetts to the late Elbridge B. and Lois N. (Paige) Dunbar. Kathlyn graduated from Mahar Regional High School in Orange, Mass. and attended Defiance College in Defiance, Ohio which is where she met her former husband, Nicholas M. Kajca. She moved to Bucyrus in 1967 and, though she made many trips to visit family in Massachusetts, this became home. She was a hard-working individual who spent many years working as a waitress at Posey’s; was a longtime bartender at The Brown Derby, where she will be remembered for her excellent mixed drinks; worked at TransCo; and retired from the Crawford County Probate Court following 17 years of service. During this time, in 1989, she married Edward H. McCarthy and they’ve created many positive memories over their 29-year marriage.

Tiffy’s faith in God has only grown stronger over the years and she’s recently enjoyed worshiping at Bucyrus United Methodist Church. She was a giving lady and always prepared something special for that someone or group she was hosting. She will be remembered for her excellent cooking, especially her lemon meringue pies. Tiffy cherished time spent with her grandchildren and kept busy around the house, working with her plants and in her flower garden. Tiffy absolutely loved playing cards and whether with the ladies of her Wednesday night poker club or close friends, she never wanted to stop. Tiffy found relaxation in reading and often watched soaps and Jeopardy. In more recent years, she enjoyed simple gatherings and many adventures with close friends.

In addition to her husband, Ed, Tiff is survived by her son, Eric (Melissa) Kajca and their children, Denae, Matthew, and Karalynn; two stepsons, Gregory (Rebecca) McCarthy and children, Quinn and Shay, and Brian (Tabitha) McCarthy and daughter, Ashley; as well as a special cousin, Ann Colby. Tiffy was preceded in death by her sister, Suzanne Thibeault.

Her family will receive friends from 2-4 and 6-8 pm Friday, April 13 at Wise Funeral Service. Funeral services will take place at 11:00 am Saturday at Bucyrus UMC, 227 S. Walnut St. with Pastor Becky Smithey officiating. A private burial will take place in Nazareth Lutheran Cemetery.

Tiffy also enjoyed watching movies, therefore it would be fitting that donations go to Schines Art Park with checks payable to TCF4CC (Community Foundation). Memories are encouraged to be shared on her Tribute Wall.
