Thurman Edward Spurlock, age 75, passed away on February 7, 2026, knowing he was surrounded by the prayers and love of his family.
Born on April 29, 1950 in Bucyrus, Thurman lived a life defined by service, responsibility, and quiet strength. He enlisted in the United States Army during his first year of college at The Ohio State University and went on to serve his country for more than two decades. Rising to the rank of Master Sergeant, his military career spanned from the Vietnam era through the Gulf War, and he retired shortly after Operation Desert Storm. Though he spoke little of his service for much of his life, he was deeply proud of it and shared that pride more openly in his later years. Thurman also worked at Timken for 17 years and appreciated many friendships formed while with the company.
Beyond his military career, Thurman was a loving father, a doting grandfather, and a steady presence to those who knew him. He was known for his integrity, discipline, and nerdy charm, and for leading by example rather than words. He showed his care through consistency, dependability, and an unwavering sense of responsibility to his family and those around him.
Thurman is survived by his sister, Yvonne Kraft and her husband, Jurgen; his brother, Jim Spurlock and his wife, Karen; his children, Thurman Spurlock and his wife, Harmony, Richard Spurlock and his wife, Krista, Ginny Spurlock, and Tony Spurlock and his wife, Mirranda; and his grandchildren, Keturah, Eli, and Zuri Spurlock, Grayson and Avery Palmer, and Anthony, Johnathan, Michael, and Kyle Spurlock; and friend, Barbara Boothe.
Calling hours will be held on Monday, February 16, from 11:30 a.m. to 12:55 p.m. at Wise Funeral Service, followed by a funeral service at 1:00 p.m. Burial will take place afterward in Oakwood Cemetery where Military Rites will be rendered in recognition of his service by both the US Army Honor Guard and the Bucyrus Veterans Military Funeral Detail.
Thurman will be remembered with respect, gratitude, and love. If desired, donations can be given through https://gofund.me/bff6e957b and will help offset expenses. Expressions of sympathy are encouraged to be shared on his guestbook page at www.wisefuneral.com.
