Thomas R. Young

Thomas R. Young, 70, of Bucyrus passed away Thursday, March 7, 2024 at Altercare of Bucyrus, knowing many prayers were uplifted on his behalf.  Tom was appreciative of the caring cards he received.

Tom was born December 27, 1953 in Bucyrus, Ohio, to his late parents, William R. Young (Darlene) and Jo Ann Powell (Samuel).

Tom was raised with siblings, Mike Young (Luellen), Bucyrus, Joyce Knapp, Crestline, and Ted Powell, Bucyrus.  Tom also has two sisters, Saundra Young and Renisa Dorner, Perrysburg, Ohio.  Tom’s niece and nephews include, Erin Briggs, (Jim) Chris Young, Adam Knapp, and Brian Knapp (Kayla); great-nephews and great-niece, Cole Young, Addison Knapp, Ethan Knapp, and Benny Knapp.

Tom graduated from Colonel Crawford High School in 1972 and furthered his education at North Central Technical College.  Tom was on the Colonel Crawford High School swim team, the Aquatic Club, scuba diving group, annual staff member, and a cast member in the school play, Time Out for Ginger.  In his junior year of high school, Tom won the state championship in the AmVets – Dodge Driver’s Excellence contest and competed for the national title in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.

Tom served as a Bucyrus Fireman, then worked at JP Morgan Bank and Children’s Hospital as a telecommunications technician, being listed in the top five percent nationally in his profession.  When Tom lived in Pataskala, Ohio, he enjoyed telling numerous fun stories about his favorite cat, Buck, over the years.  Tom was a member of the Bucyrus Moose Lodge, enjoyed competing in fast draw gun show competitions, and playing golf.

No calling hours or service will be held.

Donations in Tom’s memory can be made payable to the Humane Society Serving Crawford County and given through Wise Funeral Service in Bucyrus.  Memories and photos can be shared on the guestbook.
