Theresa Yaussy, 70, of Bucyrus passed peacefully on Wednesday, September 10, 2025 at home following a lengthy battle with esophageal cancer.
She was born April 12, 1955 in Bucyrus to the late Earnest M. “Bud” and Betty M. (Denton) Snavely and was a 1973 graduate of Bucyrus High School. Theresa met Douglas A. Yaussy through mutual friends and after a lengthy courtship, they married on October 8, 1994. Doug survives and will cherish their many wonderful memories created with family and friends.
Theresa spent many years as an office employee with Conley’s in Bucyrus. Following the store closing, she hired in at Community Counseling, where she worked as a billing supervisor, retiring after approximately 20 years of employment.
Theresa was truly a selfless person, who took pride in seeing others experience joy and happiness. She and Doug never had children; however, she cared for her nephews, nieces and great nieces and nephews as if they were her own. She was present at their events and always made sure to have their favorite foods and snacks when there was a planned visit or stay. She was an excellent baker and spoiled her family with her fantastic sweets. One of her favorite past times was sewing and Theresa was an excellent quilter. She spent hours in her sewing room where she’d create beautiful and many personalized pieces for those she loved most. She enjoyed gardening and grew things that others would enjoy. Giving and kindhearted; this is what Theresa was.
Theresa was a member of Good Hope Lutheran Church and was very active with church meals. From congregational gatherings, funerals, feeding for the hungry, as well as lining up folks to assist with the Meals on Wheel program, Theresa was hands on, making sure folks were fed and cared for.
Doug shared his love of MG cars with Theresa, and she too quickly became fascinated with these cars as well as met some great folks along the ride. She was a member of the Ohio MGT Club and COMGO. They traveled to many states for car club rides and Theresa always enjoyed the Fall Color Tours.
Traveling was important to Theresa, and she and Doug enjoyed a multitude of trips to various locations. But of all their travels, time spent in New Smyrna Beach, Florida meant the most, as it was the place that family gathered and memories were made.
Theresa will be deeply missed by her husband Doug; sister, Sharon (Bob) Hamm; brothers-in-law, Mike Cox, Steve (Mary) Yaussy and Randy (Kimberly) Yaussy; nephews and nieces, Matthew (Heather) Hamm, Mike (Rachel) Hamm, Rob (Lindsey) Hamm, Mitch (Natasha) Cox, Kyle Cox, Brit (Kim) Cox, Michael Yaussy, Caitlin (Susan) Yaussy, Leslie (Dr. Ryan) Braun and Gretchen (Dale) Hickman as well as many great nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a sister, Lora Cox and her father and mother-in-law, Dr. Paul J. and Miriam Yaussy.
Memorial visitation will be held from 10 – 11:55 am Tuesday, September 16 at Wise Funeral Service, followed by her memorial service at 12:00 pm with Pastor Tanyce Addison officiating. Theresa will be inurned in Oakwood Cemetery.
If desired, donations can be made payable to Good Hope Lutheran Church and will be accepted through the funeral home. Expressions of sympathy are encouraged to be shared on her guestbook at www.wisefuneral.com.
