Steve Wengerd, 68, of Bucyrus went to spend eternity with Jesus on July 29, 2025.
Steve was born to Henry and Nancy (Stutzman) Wengerd in Canton, Ohio on July 8, 1957. He married Debbie (Seiler) Wengerd on July 24, 1976, and they have two sons, Tim (Lisa) Wengerd and Russell (Hana) Wengerd; grandson, Robbie, and granddaughter, Madison, all of Upper Sandusky, all of whom survive. Also surviving are siblings, Jim (Liz) Wengerd, Deb (Larry) Steiner, and Robert (Mary) Wengerd. Steve was preceded in death by his grandparents, father, and sister, Mary Everett.
Steve worked in agriculture his whole life starting with his father at H.W. Wengerd & Sons Feed Mill in Clinton, Ohio. After a fire at the Mill, Steve moved to Bucyrus to work for Zeigler Milling. Zeigler’s eventually sold to Mennel Milling (Bucyrus Elevator) and Steve became branch manager. After 18 years at that location, Steve continued in agriculture as branch manager with Walton Agri-Service, Country Star Co-op, and Sunrise Co-op.
Steve enjoyed baseball and coached Little League, traveling team (Bucyrus Blitz), high school and American Legion teams. Bucyrus Blitz was established so local players, at no cost to their families, could compete with the best teams in Ohio and beyond. And, boy, did they compete! Steve was blessed to have the opportunity to coach awesome players, coaches, and parents at all levels. His successful “Wee Howdy Farmboys” Bucyrus Blitz teams were able to play in two C.A.B.A. World Series against teams from all over the U.S., Canada, Japan, and Mexico.
Steve met and made many friends through work and baseball over the years but was most proud of his family whom he loved very much.
Steve’s request is to be with all his friends, family, and anyone reading this in Heaven. If you have not yet received Jesus to be your Lord and Savior, please do so today, and we can all have a wonderful celebration in Heaven. Please pray, “Lord, forgive me of my sins. I believe you are the son of God and died on the cross for my sins. Please come into my heart. I accept you as my Lord and Savior.” If you have prayed this prayer, we shall be together in Heaven. Peace and love be with you till we meet again.
All services for Steve will be held on Saturday, August 2 at Wise Funeral Service, 129 W. Warren St. Bucyrus, Ohio. His family will receive friends from 11 – 12:55 pm immediately followed by his funeral at 1:00 pm with Pastor Jay Scott officiating. Burial will follow in Lust Cemetery.
If desired, donations can be made payable to either Bucyrus Little League or to Avita Hospice and these gifts will be accepted through the funeral home. Memories and expressions of sympathy are encouraged to be shared on his guestbook at www.wisefuneral.com.
