Sherman Ray Jarvis Sr., 77, of Bucyrus, passed peacefully on Tuesday, November 22, 2022 at home in the presence of many who loved him. His family finished reciting the Lord’s Prayer and shortly after he enter Heaven.
Sherman was born October 11, 1945 in Jeffrey, WV to the late Steven “Otha” and Linda M. (Lowe) Jarvis. He grew up in Pomeroy, Ohio and in 1966 was introduced to Ada Mae Myers. The two quickly hit it off and later that year on November 26 they married and would make Bucyrus their home. Sherman was a hard-working man who did construction his entire life. For a majority of those years, he worked for J&F Construction, where he was proud to have been named employee of the year in 1996 and retired in 2010.
If you ever met Sherman, you’ll never forget Sherman as he always maintained an upbeat attitude and his love for being around others always shined through. He was never shy about joking with anyone and he loved making others laugh. Sherman had a great love for music, and whether singing the correct lyrics or not, he always had a song to sing. He deeply loved and cherished time spent with family and never missed an event that involved his grandchildren.
Sherman was a sports enthusiast. He coached minor league baseball when his son played; was an avid bow hunter and loved supporting his Buckeyes, Indians and especially his Browns. He was a member of Plankton United Methodist Church and in addition to learning about God, he loved socializing with fellow church members.
In addition to Ada, his wife of 56 years, Sherman is survived by four children, Sherman Jarvis Jr., Kimberly Kisor, Kerry (Eric) McNutt and Krissy (Jim) Imbody; seven grandchildren, Brente Jarvis, Dylan Kisor, Ashley Harrer, Hayley (Aaron) Weisenauer, Jordan Imbody, Nate Imbody and Carson Imbody; two great grandchildren, Sophie McNutt and Masen Harrer; three siblings, June (Roger) Mowery, Dolly Suvoboda and Arthur (Sharon) Jarvis and a special niece, Teresa Garlinger and a special nephew, Jordan Howard.
He was preceded in death by seven siblings, Mildred Miller, Willadean Morris, Louise Miller, Allen Jarvis, Darrell Jarvis, James Jarvis and Frank Jarvis and a son-in-law, Patrick Kisor.
His family will receive friends from 2-4 and 6-8 pm Monday, November 28 at Wise Funeral Service, where his funeral will be held at 1:00 pm Tuesday with Pastor Brad Smith officiating. Burial will follow in Oakwood Cemetery.
If desired, donations can be made payable to either the American Cancer Society or to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. These gifts will be accepted through the funeral home and expressions of sympathy are encouraged to be share don his tribute page.
