Sheila Y. Horsley

February 26, 1962 — August 22, 2021

Sheila Y. Horsley

Sheila Horsley, 59 of rural Marion, passed peacefully Sunday, August 22, 2021, at her home following an extended battle with cancer.

She was born February 26, 1962, in Galion to the late Ralph W. and Vivian C. (Grogg) Hedrick. Her family moved closer to Bucyrus when she was young, and Sheila attended school at Col. Crawford before receiving her GED in 1980.

Sheila worked at Baja and Checkmate Boats while raising her sons, spent several years working in the cafeteria at Bucyrus Community Hospital and also at Whirlpool in Marion. With her declining health, Sheila finished her work career at Arctic Cat in Bucyrus. After her work life stopped, she was grateful for the love and support continually offered by her friends she had made over the years.

Sheila had met Don Horsley while they were both at Baja and it was love at first sight. For some reason, it took several years before they made it legal, but on June 15, 1991, they married and shared many laughs and good memories until his passing on July 8, 2017. They were “two peas in a pod” and did everything together which included crafting, making pallet furniture creations, and they shared many cups of coffee and conversations while relaxing on their deck. She was often found working in her vegetable and floral gardens and she was sure to provide special care to her Joseph’s Coat roses, as these were her favorites. She loved feeding the birds and just enjoyed all God offered through wildlife.

Sheila was a gracious and caring individual. She never sulked about hard times and was always inquiring how others were doing. Family was most important to her and whenever someone had a birthday or special occasion, she always offered up a call, card, or text message as to brighten their day. Family gatherings always put a smile on her face, and she was always up for preparing food. Her taco ring and bacon wrapped water chestnuts were a couple of their favorites.

In the past six months, Sheila was born again and eternally grateful to have been baptized through the Bucyrus Nazarene Church on August 1, 2021.

Sheila is survived by three sons, Eddie (Mary Elizabeth) Martin Jr., Joshua Martin and Tyson Farina who she recently reconnected with; several grandchildren; brothers, Douglas Hedrick, Michael (Lisa) Hedrick and Alan (Stacia) Hedrick; sisters and brothers-in-law, Peggy Claus, Portia Liles, Danny (Carol) Horsley, Keith Horsley and Chuck (Theresa Williams) Horsley; mother-in-law, Brenda Hill as well as many nieces, nephews and extended family members.

Along with her parents, Ralph and Vivian and husband, Don, Sheila was preceded in death by a son who died at infancy, Eddie Dean Martin and three brothers-in-law, Ralph Claus, Jim Liles and Brian Horsley.

Her family will receive friends from 2-4 and 6-8 pm Thursday, August 26 at Wise Funeral Service, where her funeral service will be held at 11:00 am Friday with Pastor Ray LaSalle officiating. Burial will follow in Oakwood Cemetery.

Donations can be made payable to either the Humane Society Serving Crawford County, American Cancer Society, or the American Heart Association. These gifts will be accepted through the funeral home and expressions of sympathy can be shared on her tribute wall at www.wisefuneral.com.
