Ruth Cress McPeak

Ruth V. Cress McPeak, 95, longtime Whetstone Twp. resident, died Saturday, February 6, 2016 in Indianapolis, Indiana where she was being cared for over the past year.



She was born Nov. 17, 1920 in Galion to the late Sherman and Maude (Snyder) Gifford and graduated from Whetstone High School where she played trombone in the band. Ruth married Layton Burrwell “Burry” Cress and raised two children. Burry preceded her in death Nov. 27, 1992. Ruth married Charles F. McPeak in 1995 and he preceded her in death Aug. 28, 2014.



Ruth loved a good conversation and people watching. She gardened and canned for years and made a delicious custard pie. Ruth was excellent at correspondence, regularly sending letters to family and never missing a chance to send a card. At home, she read several magazines, was always up for a game of Skip-Bo or Triominoes, and hosted the All-American Christmas. She and Charles enjoyed their golden years together, going out to eat and traveling on bus trips with friends and neighbors. Ruth worshiped at Sixteen United Methodist Church.



Ruth is survived by two children, Debbie (David) Hadsell and David (Pat) Cress; three granddaughters, Angela (Nathan) Mott, Courtney (Adam) Tscherne, and Caitlin (Ernest) Boyles; six great grandchildren; and two stepdaughters, Kathie (Frank) Welsh and Cherie (Mike) Smith.



In addition to her parents and husbands, Ruth was preceded in death by four brothers, Burt, Boyd, Mike, and Charles Gifford.



Funeral services for Ruth will be held at Wise Funeral Service in Bucyrus on Saturday, February 13 at 12 Noon with Pastor Pat Fruth officiating. Family will receive friends prior to the service, from 11 am-Noon. Burial will follow in Oakwood Cemetery.
