Roma J. Cover

Roma J. Cover, 87, of Bucyrus passed away quietly Saturday morning, September 24, 2011 at The Inn at Orchard Park.

She was born February 26, 1924 in Holmes Twp. to the late Cloyd and Amy (Spiegel) Dobbins. Roma graduated from Holmes-Liberty High School in 1942 and attended Tiffin Business School before starting work as a secretary for Warnock's Creamery and Shunk Mfg. In the fall of 1946, she caught the eye of Harold Cover. A double date was arranged, two years of courtship began and they were married on October 3, 1948. They built a home and buildings where they lived over 50 years on the Crawford-Wyandot County line.

Roma's husband of 63 years survives along with their two daughters, Brenda Steigerwalt of Upper Arlington and Treva (Dennis) Wine of Texas; three grandchildren, Lori Goode (Sriram) Krishnan of Arlington, Va., Troy (Courtney Hill) Wine of Cincinnati and Scott Wine of Chicago; nephews, Steve (Marna) Dobbins, Terry (Sylvia) Crall and Richard (Velma) Rainey; nieces, Joan Dobbins (Roger) Heft, Sharon Crall (James) Buck and Joyce Rainey (Michael) Schifer.

In addition to her parents, Roma was preceded in death by her brother and his wife, Dale (Freda) Dobbins; two sisters-in-law and their husbands, Dorothy Cover (Frederick) Rainey and Helen Cover (Walter) Crall and nephew, Rudy Dobbins.

Roma was a loving, spunky, tireless woman who loved keeping a clean home. She was never afraid to try a new recipe and her cooking was always excellent. She enjoyed spending time outside gardening or taking walks, sewing and needlework, reading, scrapbooking and traveling. She and Harold visited all 50 states, Canada and Europe, collecting teacups and other items for her shadowbox along the way. She played the piano and violin and enjoyed gathering with friends for cards and New Year's Eve. Roma was a 50-plus year charter member of the Mt. Zion Mothers Roundtable Club, served as a 4-H advisor and was a member of Epworth UMC where she was in the Mary Martha Sunday School Class and the Ruth Circle.

The Cover family will receive friends at Wise Funeral Service from 10-12 Noon Tuesday, September 27. The funeral will begin Tuesday at 12:30 with Rev. Star Sanchez officiating and burial will follow in Oakwood Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be given to Homecare Matters Home Health and Hospice through the funeral home.
