Roger Franklin Miller, 88, of rural Bucyrus, passed peacefully on Sunday, July 27, 2025 at Altercare of Bucyrus.
Roger was born on September 19, 1936 in Lykens Twp., Crawford County, Ohio to the late Woodrow Alfus and Frieda Louise (Kline) Miller. On September 23, 1956, Roger married his neighbor and love, Catherine Louise Perkins. They shared nearly 69 years of marriage and built a lifetime of memories.
Roger worked as a machine operator at Timken for 40 years. He also maintained a small greenhouse where he sold fresh grown vegetables and flowers. After retirement, Roger served as the groundskeeper for all of the Little League fields at both Aumiller and Lions Park for 17 years.
A man who loved the outdoors, he enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping, golfing and throwing horseshoes. He also bowled in various leagues at Suburban and Crawford Lanes as well as played many years of slow-pitch softball. An avid sports fan, Roger loved cheering on his Cleveland Indians and Ohio State Buckeyes and could be seen at many Wynford Royal events.
Roger was a member of Good Hope Lutheran Church, Bucyrus Moose Lodge and had served in the Ohio National Guard until being honorably discharged due to a serious car accident.
In addition to wife, Catherine, Roger is survived by children, Kathy (James) Watts, Renae (Robert) Cox, Roger (Kindar) Miller and Doug (Cyndi) Miller; grandchildren, Keri (Tad) Brown, Brandon (Molly) Watts, Adam (Ashley Phillips) Cox, Jared (Jace) Swingle, Rachel (Max) Dignan, Abby (Andrew) Ruffing, Aden (Savannah) Miller, Alec (Monique) Miller, Shaylin (Chris) Lear, Atlee Miller and Landon Miller; 14 great grandchildren and a sister, Nancy Little. He was preceded in death by a brother, Woody Miller and sister, Donna Mae Miksel.
His family was extremely thankful to the Altercare staff for the care and compassion provided.
All services for Roger will be held on Friday, August 1 at Wise Funeral Service. His family will receive friends from 11 – 12:55 pm immediately followed by his funeral at 1:00 pm with Pastor Tanyce Addison officiating. Burial will follow in Brokensword Cemetery.
