Roger L. Anthony

Roger L. Anthony, 60, died unexpectedly of natural causes on Thursday night, April 13, 2023, at his home after years of failing health.

He was born in Bucyrus on July 15, 1962 to Albert Jr. and Beth (Streeter) Anthony. After graduating from Wynford High School in 1980, Roger began working in manufacturing. He was a manager in the wire assembly industry and worked in Bucyrus, Tennessee, and Mexico until his health no longer permitted.

Roger will be remembered for his big, jolly belly laugh and bringing life and laughter to every party. An early bird, he liked to get his errands done before taking a late-morning nap and then hanging out with friends or spoiling his grandson. When he was healthier, Roger was a great golfer. He also was an avid shooter, enjoyed fishing, and got really excited to hunt for arrowheads any time he saw a freshly turned field. From the moment he could drive, Roger also loved to drive hard and fast. Many Jeeps and Trans-Ams have been taken to their limits by Roger. At home, he liked to read books on history, watch sitcoms and old westerns, or sit in the shade of his son’s maple tree where he could smoke cheap cigars and share a cold one with friends who stopped by. Shuffleboard was another passion and he was happy to have sold his 22’ board to The Wren’s Nest where he could still enjoy the game. He was a die-hard fan of the Cleveland Browns and absolutely loved being Kane’s grandpa. No dessert was safe if Roger was around to eat it and he cherished the company of Garfield, his big cat.

Roger is survived by his parents, Al and Beth; children, Jessie Anthony (Dominic Potter) and Cody Anthony (Heidi Thoman); grandchildren, Kane and Elena; sisters, Pamela McCombs and Sheila Pritchard; nephew, Brian Auck (Ashley Riley); niece, Ashley (Shaun) Knecht and their girls, Eleanor and Violet; and the mother of his children, Lynn Anthony. He was preceded in death by brother-in-law, Craig McCombs and uncle, Chuck Anthony.

Roger’s family will celebrate his life by gathering with friends to say their goodbyes and share great stories at Wise Funeral Service in Bucyrus on Thursday, April 20 from 4-7 pm.

Donations are encouraged to be made payable to the Humane Society Serving Crawford County and given at the funeral home. Memories and photos can be shared on Roger’s Tribute Wall.
