Rodney A. Miller

Rodney A. Miller, 62, of Bucyrus, died Sunday, September 11, 2011 at Heartland of Bucyrus following a brief battle with cancer.

He was born August 30, 1949 in Tiffin, the son of, Hubert I. Miller who preceded him in death and Rachel M. (Young) Miller who lives in Bucyrus. Rodney was a 1968 graduate of Bucyrus High School and from 1969 – 1971 served in the US Army during the Vietnam Conflict. Rodney received a National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal and the recipient of a Purple Heart Medal.

Rodney worked for a short time at Hall Heating and Cooling and Baja but had spent the past 17 years at Whirlpool in Marion. On July 4, 2006, he married Sharon K. (Robinette) Kimmel and together they enjoyed traveling and working around their home. He was known as a quiet man who loved to hunt deer from his tree stand. He had the memory of building a canoe with his older brother, rebuilt a west coaster but probably his greatest accomplishment was the completion of his fish pond which he personally created.

He was formerly a member of the Bucyrus Moose Lodge and also had helped with maintenance for the Bucyrus Bratwurst Festival for many years.

In addition to his mom, Rachel and wife, Sharon, Rodney will be missed by his step-children, Scott R. (Kim) Kimmel, Robin W. Kimmel, Heath J. (Christine) Kimmel; step-grandchildren, Kalysta, Robert, Nathan, Stephaine and Kirstin; his brother, Jerry (Linda) Miller of Bucyrus; a niece, Jodi (Greg) Escue and their children, Nye and Megan; a nephew, Jacob Miller and his family dogs, Macie and Cody Valentino. Rodney is preceded in death by a brother, Fred Miller.

Friends may call from 4-7 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 14 at Wise Funeral Service, 129 W. Warren St., Bucyrus, Ohio 44820 where funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday. Burial will follow in Nevada Cemetery with full Military Rites being provided by the U.S. Army and Am. Legion Post 181 Honor Guards. Memorial contributions may be given to the American Cancer Society through the funeral home.
