Robert G. Hudson, better known as Bart Hudson, 78, died Sunday, July 19, 2026 at Altercare of Bucyrus where he had resided for over a year.
He was born in Bucyrus on February 29, 1948, so he celebrated 19 leap-year birthdays. His parents were the late William H. and Frances R. (King) Hudson. Bart grew up in Holmes Twp. and attended Holmes-Liberty School and Wynford High School, graduating in the class of 1966. Bart met a local teacher, Colette Lindgren, and they were married May 24, 1974. They gardened together, watched sports, and were train enthusiasts.
Bart enjoyed farming, but his passion was carpentry and he worked many years with Nigh Builders, leaving his mark of excellence in many homes and projects throughout the county. He was also a proud son of a Navy veteran and loved his country. He was a member of Sons of the Americal Legion Squadron 181 and marched with their parade honor guard. In his spare time, Bart enjoyed spending time on the farm, family gatherings, socializing at the Legion Hall, woodworking, following the Buckeyes and Packers, and he was a gifted photographer.
Bart is survived by his bride of 52 years, Colette Hudson; daughter, Vanessa Shutler; grandsons, Garrett Shutler, Austin Shutler, and Brandon (Lexi) Shutler; great grandchildren, Kasien and Laylyn; brother, James (Marcia) Hudson; sister, Betty Daniel; and his beloved nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, Bart was preceded in death by brother, William Hudson.
All services will be held at Wise Funeral Service in Bucyrus on Wednesday, July 22. Family will receive friends from 9:30-10:55 am and the funeral will begin at 11:00 am with Pastor Matt Anderson officiating.
Those wishing to make memorial contributions are encouraged to make them payable to Humane Society Serving Crawford County or Bucyrus Preservation Society (for the Train Depot). These gifts can be given at the funeral home.
Memories and photos can be shared on the guestbook of Bart’s tribute page at www.wisefuneral.com.
