Robert E. Burk

Robert E. Burk, 87, of Bucyrus, died Tuesday, May 4, 2010 at Heartland of Bucyrus. He was born March 12, 1923 in Bucyrus to the late Cleo Robert and Lucille (Corwin) Burk. Bob attended high school in Bucyrus and on October 24, 1942 he married Mabel Yost who survives. Bob served in the US Army during WW II from 1943 – 1946 and worked at Timken from 1957 until his retirement in 1985. He was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Bucyrus; a 64 year member of the Am. Legion Post 181, where he was as a Past Commander and served with the Honor Guard. Bob was a life member of Amvets Post 27 and VFW; was a 32 degree Mason; was a life member and former secretary of the Crawford Co. Conservation League and a long time member of Moose 669 and Elks 156. He enjoyed socializing with friends at the various clubs and liked watching OSU football and Cleveland Indians baseball.

In addition to his wife of nearly 68 years, Bob is survived by three sons, Bill (Jan) Burk of Angola, Indiana, Gary Burk of Bowdoin, Maine and David Burk of Bucyrus; three grandchildren, Andrew Burk of Bucyrus, Lindsay Burk and Shawn Burk both of Indiana; step-grandchildren, Chris, Allen, Megan and Joe; step-great grandchildren, Lux, Alexis, Allanah and Paige; one brother, Charles (Betty) Burk of Rock Island, Illinois and one sister-in-law, Thelma Burk of Maumee, Ohio.

He is preceded in death by a brother, Jim Burk. Friends may call from 4 – 7 p.m. Friday, May 7 at Wise Funeral Service, where funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday with Pastor Jack Kocsis officiating. Burial will follow in Oakwood Cemetery with full military rites being provided by the Am. Legion Post 181.

Memorial contributions may be given to St. Paul's Lutheran Church or to Gifts for Yanks through the funeral home. Online expressions may be left at www.wisefuneral.com.
