Rick Roe, 58, died Sunday, May 28, 2023 at Grant Medical Center from injuries sustained in an ATV accident.
He was born in Crestline on October 4, 1964 to the late Paul Jr. and Margaret (Pennington) Roe. Rick graduated from Colonel Crawford and Pioneer JVS, where he studied small appliance repair, in 1983. He worked for Pillsbury/General Mills in Martel until retiring in 2016. Mutual friends introduced Rick to Amy Shearer and they were married June 29, 1985. After his retirement, Rick and Amy enjoyed traveling with the Rocky Mountains, Yellowstone, and several western canyons being his favorite destinations.
Rick was a simple man who always kept busy. While he seldom sat down for a conversation, he loved a good game of cards and was always the first to show up and help with any project. He loved taking meticulous care of his property, bird watching, and the solitude of living in the country. He also loved music, could whistle any melody line, and could answer almost all trivia related to classic 70s and 80s rock. He and Amy attended several concerts and Rick had an impressive record collection. Rick also was an avid OSU and Cleveland sports fan. His grandchildren brought him special joy and he loved hosting campfires.
Rick is survived by his bride of nearly 38 years, Amy Roe; children, Katie (Josh) Kirtley and Cameron (Tiffany) Roe; grandchildren, Declan, Greyson, Gwen, Evelyn, and Graham; aunts, Cindy (Dave) Shumaker, Connie (Keith) Adams, and Janina Roe; mother-in-law, Irma Shearer; sisters-in-law, Pat (Brian) Green and Lori (Verl) Dye; and nieces, nephews, and several cousins with whom he was very close.
In addition to his parents, Rick was preceded in death by sisters, Sheila and Kimberly; uncle, Terry Roe Sr.; father-in-law, Harry Shearer; and cousin, Jodi Young.
Rick’s family welcomes friends to celebrate his life on Friday, June 2 from 3-6 pm at Wise Funeral Service in Bucyrus.
Memorial donations are encouraged to be made payable to American Cancer Society and given through the funeral home. Memories and photos can be shared on his Tribute Wall.
