Richard C. Cox

Richard C. Cox, 93, formerly of Galion died of failing health due to a recent hip injury on Saturday, September 17, 2016 at Maplecrest Assisted Living where he had been a resident over three years.



He was born February 14, 1923 in Canaan Twp., Morrow County, the youngest child of the late Ira and Lola (Bash) Cox. He grew up on and always had a passion for the family farm. He graduated from Caledonia High School and married the former Juanita Underwood, whom he met at the Marion County Fair, and they made their home in Galion. She preceded him in death in June 2002.



Richard worked in sales for Wickes Lumber of Galion before retiring. He was an avid bowler in his younger years, was a fan of the Indians and Buckeyes, and was a true nature lover. He enjoyed watching birds and other creatures from his window and the company of his dog, “Lady.” Never one to sit idle, Richard stayed busy, never met a stranger and was honest to a fault.



Richard is survived by his daughter, Vickie (Jesse) Sipes of Bucyrus; three grandchildren, Kyle Rinehart, Josh Rinehart (Nicole Tomecko), and Jessica Needs (Brian Hunt); and five great grandchildren, Shelby, Keldon, Ellie, Devon, and Dylan.



In addition to his parents and wife of 55 years, He was preceded in death by brothers, Edwin and Harold; sisters, Gladys Rinehart, Bernice Flowers, and Pearl Cox; and “Lady.”



Richard’s family will receive friends at Wise Funeral Service in Bucyrus from 5-8 pm on Tuesday, September 20 and one hour before the funeral which will be on Wednesday at 1:00 pm in the funeral home with Pastor Scott Willman officiating. Burial will follow in Iberia Cemetery.
