Patricia Lee Wentz, 77 of Bucyrus, passed peacefully at home in the presence of many who loved her on Monday, February 6, 2023.
Pat was born March 20, 1945 in Mansfield to the late Paul D. and Geneva E. (Oney) Livingston. On April 20, 1974, she married Burton L. Wentz Sr. who survives. Pat and Burt were quite a pair for nearly 49 years of marriage. He worked outside the home to support their family and she worked inside, caring for everyone as a homemaker.
Pat kept her home meticulously clean, and it wasn’t uncommon for her to be found crawling around the floors to pick lint and fuzz out of the carpet. After spending hours each day cleaning, she always saw to it, that her family enjoyed a hearty home cooked meal. Roast beef, potatoes and carrots being a favorite; occasionally followed by her fantastic peach cobbler. At a very young age, Pat taught herself to crochet and over the years, handcrafted bedspreads, table coverings and anything else she could think of. These masterpieces became gifts for family and friends. She played the piano, organ and the accordion and there were many evenings at home, where she and Burt would perform together. She on the piano and he on the guitar. But of all her talents, she was most proud of being a grandma. Pat certainly loved Burt and their kids, but she was happiest when spending time with her grandbabies and was known to have spoiled them on occasion.
Pat always looked forward to Spring. The flowers began to bloom, life got a little brighter and garage sales were soon to pop up everywhere. She did her best to find every one of them, and in fact, shopping for bargains almost always brough a smile to her face, except for one time in 1985, when she got kidnapped while bargain seeking at Murphy Mart. Fortunately, she was found safe.
Every weekday at 7:00 pm, Pat’s TV was tuned into Jeopardy, and she ended her evening with a little Candy Crush Soda Saga as well as Facebook messaging her grandchildren to tell them how much she loved them. Pat didn’t belong to many organizations, but she was a former member of the Kaler Ave. Church of Christ, where she and Burt enjoyed the message and friendship of former pastor, Bob Jividen.
In addition to her husband Burton, Pat is survived by 10 children, Burton (Diane) Wentz Jr., Brent (Jamie) Wentz, Bonita Dyer, Bridgette Cole, Babette (Mike) Green, Rebecca Freeman, Jon (Susan) Freeman, Holly (Gene Miller) Wickline, Amy Freeman and Jennifer (Brad) Kagel; 29 grandchildren; 41 great grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by two grandchildren; a son-in-law, Chris “Duffy” Dyer and three brothers, Randy Livingston, David Livingston and Greg Stanfield.
Calling hours for Pat will be held from 2-4 and 6-8 pm Friday, February 10 at Wise Funeral Service. She will be privately laid to rest in Crawford County Memory Gardens with Pastor Bob Jividen officiating.
Pat had a big heart for animals and would find it fitting that any donations be made payable to the Humane Society Serving Crawford County. These gifts will be accepted through the funeral home and expressions of sympathy can be shared on her tribute wall.
