Nancy C. Edgington

Nancy C. Edgington, 84, of Bucyrus, passed peacefully at her home on Tuesday, August 24, 2021.

She was born July 15, 1937 in Bloomville, Ohio to the late Charles R. and Mae L. (Coffman) Scheerer. Nancy graduated from Bloomville High School and shortly thereafter found employment at Timken. This is where she met Byron “Barney” Edgington. They shared some time dating, got married and were each other’s best friends until his passing on February 25, 2016.

Nancy left Timken and became the “true model” of a homemaker caring for her family. She and Barney were active members of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Bucyrus, where most often, she could be found in the kitchen preparing any kind of food for any event or activity held at the church. She will be remembered for her famous corn cakes and her personal recipe is subtly placed in the kitchen of the church as to allow her recipe to live on for years to come. Also, Nancy could be referred to as the “Queen of Hospitality” as she made certain that anyone she encountered had more than enough food to eat.

Nancy began every day with a pot of Maxwell House coffee and caught up on the world happenings by tuning into Fox News. She always looked forward to 1:00 pm on Thursdays as this was her standing weekly hair appointment. She enjoyed watching Cleveland Indians baseball, OSU Buckeyes football and college hoops, and always cleared her calendar when the Duke Blue Devils took the court. Family was most important to her, and this included Sugar, her miniature schnauzer, who she more than spoiled over the years. Nancy was a breast cancer survivor and was thankful to have been a longtime active supporter of Crawford County Relay for Life.

She is survived by her children, Kellie Barrett and boyfriend, Richard Mott and Rich Edgington and fiancé, Susie Griffin; six grandchildren, Ashley (Todd) Wallace, Michael Edgington, Ethan Edgington, Nicholas (Brandy Ramsey) Barrett, Suzann Edgington and Beau Edgington; nine great grandchildren, Carter, Piper, Rileigh, Zahria, Zailee, Kaleah, Aryanna, Carson and Kase. Also surviving is a sister, Jane Rinehart and many nieces and nephews.

Along with her parents and husband, Barney, Nancy was preceded in death by three siblings, Maggie Smith, Ginny Fogelman and Bud Scheerer.

Friends may call from 2-5 pm Sunday, August 29 at Wise Funeral Service. Her funeral will be held at 11:00 am Monday at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Bucyrus with Pastor Mike Greenler officiating. Burial will follow in Oakwood Cemetery.

Donations can be made payable to either St. Paul’s Lutheran Church or the American Cancer Society and these gifts will be accepted through the funeral home or at the church on morning of services. Memories are encouraged to be shared on her tribute page.
