Mitchell W. Light

Mitch Light, 67 of rural Bucyrus, gained his wings on September 21, 2023 following his peaceful passing at home after a brief battle with pancreatic cancer.

Mitch was born March 18, 1956 in Bucyrus to William W. Light who survives and G. Jeannine (Hiteshaw) Light who preceded him in death. He was a 1974 graduate of Wynford High School and shortly thereafter served in the Air Force. Upon his honorable discharge, Mitch enrolled at Heidelburg College and completed his associate degree in music. Following college, he he took interest in tool and die work, about which he became very knowledgeable. Mitch worked at various companies over the years and was lastly employed at Guardian in Upper Sandusky until his health no longer allowed.

In 1999, Mitch married Laura Marie Snodgrass who survives. With Laura, Mitch gained an extended family who he deeply loved and, as the family grew, he loved playing with the youngsters. One of Mitch’s favorite spots in their home was his kitchen, where he made the best meals and any of his Italian creations brought people to the table. Another favorite hangout for Mitch was his shop, where he spent many hours tinkering and fixing things. He was a huge dog lover and George, his most recent four-legged friend, seems a little lost with his passing.

Mitch was a free-spirited type of guy who believed in, and preached to others about, doing what makes you happy. He enjoyed comedy and could often be heard chuckling with laughter to his favorite comedians, Jeff Dunham or Lewis Black. He enjoyed music of the 60s and 70s. Neil Diamond was his favorite and he even had the opportunity to meet him and shake his hand. But of all that was important to Mitch, politics were number one and he certainly wasn’t shy about expressing his beliefs to others. One of his favorite shows was Fox and Friends and he rarely missed an episode.

In addition to his dad, William; and his wife, Laura; Mitch is survived by children, Nicole (Chris) Smith and Victoria (Phil) Donnersbach; grandchildren, Lynnette, Jonathon, Lily, and Aurora; sister, Michelle Light; close family friend, Katie McCowan; as well as other extended family members and friends. He was preceded in death by his mom, Jeannine.

A celebration of life gathering will be held from 2-4 pm Sunday, September 24 at Wise Funeral Service, 129 W. Warren St., Bucyrus. Friends are encouraged to dress casually in green apparel as this was Mitch’s favorite color. The day will conclude with Military Rites being provided by the Air Force Honor Guard at 4:00 pm and then Mitch’s cremated body will return home and sit in the living room as he promised to no longer complain when Laura and Katie watch their favorite TV shows.

Mitch sincerely requested friends and family not send flowers. If they feel the need to do something, please consider a donation to PanCAN. These gifts will be accepted through the funeral home and expressions of sympathy are encouraged to be shared on his guestbook.
