Michael E. Schreck

Michael E. Schreck, 78, died peacefully Tuesday, May 20, 2025 at his home under the care of his family and Avita Hospice.

He was born on May 23, 1946 to the late Ralph Jr. and Bernice (Walker) Schreck in Hobbs, New Mexico where his father was stationed with the Army Air Corps. They returned to Crawford County where his parents operated the Lemert General Store and Schreck Insurance. He played baseball in high school and was a member of the inaugural Wynford High School graduating class of 1964. While in school, Mike began dating Carol A. Chester. After she graduated, they married on October 9, 1966.

Mike always loved farming and spent his career in sales supporting the industry and making many friends. He sold for Moorman's Feed out of Quincy, Ill. for over 25 years, then UAP, and finally for Sunrise in Crestline.

He cherished the many flights he was able to share with his dad, including trips to Cleveland for ball games, Lake Erie, as well as other destinations around Ohio. Mike also enjoyed bowling and was a big racing fan. He loved watching sprint cars in Attica and Fremont or NASCAR and Indy Car races at home. Another hobby he cherished was shooting. He did trap shooting and collected and repaired old firearms which also gave him quality time with his grandchildren to teach them gun safety and how to shoot.

Outside of the occasional flight with his dad or fishing trip to Lake Erie, Mike enjoyed staying close to home. This allowed him to spend more time watching his kids and grandkids activities. He and Carol also raised Roller Pigeons. Their aerial acrobatics brought many years of enjoyment and those traveling by their house something to talk about. Many arrowheads were also gathered while working ground and walking his property. He was also an active member of the Lemert Church where he grew up attending and involved himself in projects as needed.

Mike is survived by his bride of 58 years, Carol Schreck; children, Wendy (Scott) Blamer, Timothy (Kim) Schreck, Jennifer (Matthew) Caldwell, and Benjamin Schreck; grandchildren, Chris (Shawna) Brown, Nate (Nicole) Brown, Corey Brown, Robbie Schreck (fiancée Sarah Prince), Drew Schreck, Aden Caldwell (Lexus Taylor), and Kenna Caldwell (Anthony Evans); great grandchildren, Camden, Brinley, Lennon, and Brady; siblings, Pamela (Harold) McDaniel, Thomas (Candy) Schreck, and Dale (Michele) Schreck; sisters-in-law, Joyce Liming (Brenda Young) and Marsha Chester; and numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by brother-in-law, Mike Chester.

All services will be held at Wise Funeral Service in Bucyrus. Family will receive friends on what would have been Mike’s 79th birthday, Friday, May 23, from 2-4 and 6-8 pm. His funeral will be on Saturday at 11:00 am with his lifelong friend, Gary Schiefer, officiating. He will be laid to rest in Brokensword Cemetery at a later date.

Memorial donations are encouraged to be made payable to Lemert Church and given at the funeral home. Memories and photos can be shared on the guestbook of Mike’s tribute page at www.wisefuneral.com.
