Mary Lou Neumann

Mary Louise Neumann, 84, formerly of Bucyrus, passed peacefully on Tuesday, September 3, 2024 at Embassy of Marion.

She was born February 17, 1940 in Galion, Ohio to the late Marian H. and Annabel E. (Virtue) Crall. Mary spent much of her youth growing up in Tiro and was a 1957 graduate of Buckeye Central High School. She was also proud to have earned her Associate’s Degree in Advanced Math from Marion Technical College in 1985.

Mary worked for a short period of time at Ten Eyke’s Greenhouse before being hired at Cooper’s Mill in 1974. She was their first hired employee and retired in 2007. She was known as “Mary Lou” to her work family and wore many hats over her 33 years at Cooper’s. If ever a customer or fellow employee had a question, Mary Lou had the answer and loved being helpful to anyone.

Mary was a longtime member of St. John’s UCC where she sang in the choir and enjoyed fellowship with others.

Throughout her life, their family enjoyed many weekends camping and a couple of her favorite spots were Rose Lynn and Honey Creek. She was a talented seamstress, and her children still remember their outfits that were hand sewn with love. She liked to spend time working with her flowers around the home and spent a lot of time tending to her garden, which provided many of their vegetables to go along with the meals she prepared. One of Mary’s favorite pastimes was reading, and she always enjoyed her weekly visit to the library, where she’d load up on books to read and start over the next week. When not reading, Mary enjoyed watching the OSU Buckeyes and Cleveland Indians as well as other shows on the TV. She appreciated the companionship offered by her cats.

She will be missed by her children, Ellen (Roger) Bloomfield, Master Sgt. Alan “Rick” (Casey) Neumann and Sonya (James) Gibson; numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren; sister, Betsy (Dr. Mark) Rafferty; sister-in-law, Phyllis Crall as well as many other extended family members.

In addition to her parents, Mary was preceded in death by her daughter-in-law, Janine Neumann and siblings, Robert Crall and Margaret “Lula” Amstutz.

Memorial visitation for Mary will be held from 2 -4 pm Tuesday, September 10 at Wise Funeral Service where her memorial service will follow at 4:00 pm that day with Pastor Gary Schiefer and Tranquility Hospice Chaplain Conrad Esh officiating. She will be inurned in Union Cemetery at a later date.

Her family wishes to express their appreciation to Tranquility Hospice as well as the nursing staff and aides at Community Healthcare Facility for the love shown to Mary Lou. Thank you, everyone was so kind and compassionate.

If desired, donations can be made payable to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital and this gifts will be accepted through the funeral home. Expressions of sympathy are encouraged to be shared on her guestbook page.
