Mary Louise Diebler

Mary Louise Diebler, 96, of Whetstone Twp., died Thursday, July 16, 2026 at Carlisle Place under the care of Compassus Hospice.

Weeze, as she was known to most, was born in Bucyrus on June 26, 1930 to the late Leo H. and Ethel I. (Fauser) Carr. Her father farmed in Kilbourne (Delaware County), Morrow County, and Whetstone Twp. While attending Whetstone School, Weeze was in several activities, including being a cheerleader. She became acquainted with her neighbor, Richard E. Diebler, and they were married January 8, 1947. Mary Louise was the ideal “farm wife.” She worked just as hard as the men and kept the farm, home, and four boys in order as Dick was in the fields or working for the railroad. Dick preceded her in death on February 23, 2003.

Weeze will be remembered for her distinctive giggle, fastidious attention to detail, and her hospitality. Her door and phone line were always open to a friendly conversation and a listening ear. Her lawn and gardens were well kept, hummingbirds well fed, and she stayed busy in her kitchen, often preparing her Corn Salad or Springerle Cookies. Family was important, from faithfully attending grand children’s events, keeping the door open for visits, day trips with her sister and sister-in-law, and having an intimate knowledge of her and Dick’s lineage.

Her church family was another important part of her life. As a faithful member of St. John’s UCC in Bucyrus, she attended services, sang in the choir, was treasurer of the Women’s Guild, and helped serve up Bratwurst Sundaes during the festival. Even at 90, she saw that the “older ladies” were picked up and taken to activities. Weeze kept her mind sharp with crossword puzzles and by watching Jeopardy! She told others, “You are as old as you feel and I don’t feel that old.”

Mary Louise is survived by sons, Carl (Barb) Diebler, Glenn (Barbara) Diebler, and Jim (Connie) Diebler; daughter-in-law, Chris Diebler Ruth; grandchildren, Amanda Diebler (Bryan Lohr), Sarah (Shane) Ash, Matt Diebler, Nicole (Mitch) Uline, Corey (Jessica) Diebler, Jennifer (Jake) Swinehart, Jason Diebler, Heather (Chris) Cole, Erin (Matt) Anderson, and Ashley (Sean) Spears; 18 great grandchildren; 3 great-great grandchildren with two more expected; sister, Carolyn Poorman; and sister-in-law, Jean Carr.

In addition to her parents and husband of 56 years, she was preceded in death by son, Ed Diebler; brother, Charles Carr and wife Winifred; brother, Harry LaVern Carr; and brother-in-law, Mills Poorman.

Weeze didn’t want a fuss regarding her services. Family will gather at St. John’s UCC, 120 S. Lane St. in Bucyrus on Tuesday, July 21 where her memorial service will begin at 11:00 am with Pastor Gary Schiefer officiating followed by a light luncheon. She will be laid to rest privately in Oakwood Cemetery.

Those wishing to make memorial contributions are encouraged to make them payable to St. John’s UCC or a charity of the donor’s choice and give at the service or Wise Funeral Service in Bucyrus.

Memories and photos can be shared on the guestbook of her tribute page at www.wisefuneral.com.
