Marvel Maxine Cover, 98, died Thursday, June 14, 2018 at Altercare of Bucyrus where she had been a resident for several years, becoming a staff favorite. They provided her with exemplary care for which her family will always be grateful.
She was born October 5, 1919 in Forest, Ohio to the late Harry and Eva (Hopkins) Smith. Marvel graduated from Galion High School in 1937 and on April 6, 1947, she married A. Dale Cover whom she met through a friend. They shared nearly 60 years of marriage until his death on July 8, 2007. Marvel cared for her family as a homemaker and worked as a case worker at the Crawford County Dept. of Human Services for many years. She believed in giving of herself and did so by volunteering as a Bucyrus Courthouse guide, American Red Cross Bloodmobile worker, and gave many hours of her time to the Bucyrus Hospital Gift Shop.
Marvel was a longtime Nazarene and enjoyed worshiping at the Bucyrus Nazarene Church. Her husband Dale had a passion for singing in various quartets and thought she might enjoy singing as well; so, he convinced her to join the Sweet Adelines for a few years. Marvel kept busy with knitting, sewing and mending. She enjoyed traveling to visit family and spent many days working in her garden. Marvel was always up for a trip with her lady friends. Whether lunch, shopping, or a day trip, she always insisted on driving and will be remembered as their taxi service.
Marvel is survived by two children, Barbara (Bruce) Heinlen of Galion, Bruce (Louise Capizzi) Cover of Cranberry, Pennsylvania and former daughter-in-law, Donna Bell of Wexford, Pennsylvania; seven grandchildren, Brett (Jessica) Heinlen, Bethany (Kyle) Zeuch, Brooke (Zach) Daniels, Blake (Malorie) Heinlen, Courtney (JB) Mueller, Chris (Heather) Cover, and Ben Cover; nine great grandchildren; as well as nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by two sisters, Mildred (Ivan) Reid and Elladyne (Stanley) Tripp and stepson, Robert Cover who has two surviving daughters, Jackie and Tonya.
Her family will receive friends from 11-12:45 pm Wednesday, June 20 at Bucyrus Nazarene Church, after which, her funeral will be held at 1:00 pm with Pastor Ray LaSalle officiating. A private burial will take place at a later date in Oakwood Cemetery.
Contributions can be made payable to the Bucyrus Nazarene Church and will be earmarked for the music dept. These gifts will be accepted through Wise Funeral Service or at the church on the day of services.
