Marjorie A. Guttenberg

Marjorie A. Guttenberg, 76, died unexpectedly Monday, March 21, 2016 at Bucyrus Community Hospital.

She was born September 21, 1939 in Chatfield to the late Forrest and Helen (Hern) Sheerer.

She lived her childhood years in Chatfield until her father’s death, when her family moved to Bucyrus. While in school she worked at Kroger, where she met Larry Guttenberg and the year 1957 worked out to be very magical. They married that February, she graduated from Bucyrus High School and they welcomed their first child.

Margie cared for her family as a homemaker and led a Christ-centered life, being active in church and women’s groups at College Hill UCC, Chatfield Nazareth Lutheran Church and attending Woodlawn United Methodist for the past 14 years. She was also active with her breast cancer survivor support group.

Margie was a very organized lady who will be remembered by her family for her various notebooks or journals that spoke of happenings throughout her life including one that lists all of the books she’s read. She was a very talented sewer and quilter, seeing that every family member owned one of her special creations. Margie also touched many lives with her personalized memorial bears that she made upon request. She loved her flowers, especially lupines, and she and Larry often got the urge to venture out on road trips, many of which included following their grandchildren and great grandchildren at their events or taking in a gospel concert. When not on the go she liked to unwind in a book, complete a jigsaw or crossword puzzle and often the two could be found on their outside patio visiting with others.

She is survived by her husband of 59 years, Larry Guttenberg; four children, Laura (Larry) Pope, Glenn (Deana) Guttenberg, Karen (Ken) Schultz and Gail (Kurt) Koehling; 12 grandchildren, Bryan (Becky) Pope, Brad (Melissa) Pope, Tyler (Kerri) Pope, Travis (Amanda) Pope, Eric (Jackie) Guttenberg, Corey (Morgan) Guttenberg, Haley (Chris) McGuire, Kasey (Stephenie) Schultz, Kendra Schultz, and Taylor, Jordan and Logan Koehling; and 16 great grandchildren, Brynn, Elyse, Addysen, Seth, Drew, Kyle, Aubrey, Alexis, Kellen and Elizabeth Pope, Max, Sadie, Lola, Callie and Libby Guttenberg and Karleigh Schultz. Also surviving is one sister, Patricia Spencer.

In addition to her parents, Margie was preceded in death by her stepfather, Robert Trucks.

Friends may call Thursday, March 24 from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. at Wise Funeral Service. Her service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday at Woodlawn UMC with Pastor Tom Gruver officiating and burial will follow in Oakwood Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be given to Woodlawn UMC, National Breast Cancer Foundation or to Gideons International through the funeral home.
