Marie C. Gubernath, 62 of Bucyrus, died unexpectedly Wednesday, November 7, 2018 at Bucyrus Community Hospital where she was currently being seen for pneumonia like symptoms.
She was born December 11, 1955 in Tiffin to the late Charles and Lanarda (Studer) Carp and was a 1974 graduate of Tiffin Calvert High School. Marie was introduced to Joseph C. Gubernath at his sister’s wedding and following a brief courtship, the two were married on April 24, 1982.
Marie cared for her family as a homemaker and after her children were grown, she took a bank teller position at People’s Savings & Loan where she had worked for the past 14 years. She was a member of Holy Trinity Catholic Church, serving on the finance committee, assisting with their festivals and wherever else needed. She was also an active member of Crawford County Right to Life. Marie and Joe liked day trips to Lake Erie and Amish Country when they got a chance and she enjoyed time spent in her garden. She crocheted, and cross stitched many creations and will be remembered for her vast collections of Santa & Mrs. Claus figurines.
In addition to Joe, her husband 36 years, Marie is survived by three children, Ed Gubernath of Bucyrus, Anne Gubernath of Columbus and Dan Gubernath of Cincinnati; one brother, Henry Carp of Tiffin; two brothers-in-law, Jerry (Linda) Gubernath and George Gubernath; two sisters-in-law, Evelyn Gubernath and Doris Cavaliero as well as many extended family members.
Marie was preceded in death by two sisters-in-law, Kathy Gubernath and Sister Justine Gubernath.
Marie’s family will receive friends at Wise Funeral Service on Monday, November 12 from 2-4 and 6-8 pm and the evening will conclude with a Rosary Service at 8 pm. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11:00 am Tuesday at Holy Trinity Catholic Church with Father Paul Fahrbach as Celebrant. Burial will follow in Holy Trinity Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made payable to either Crawford County Right to Life or to Holy Trinity Church. These gifts will be accepted through the funeral home.
