Margery Rogers

Margery E. Rogers, 96, died peacefully Sunday, March 28, 2021 at Altercare of Bucyrus after just over a year of failing health.

She was born in Sandusky Twp., Crawford County on New Year’s Day 1925 to the late Milton and Garnet (Smith) Sand. After graduating from Holmes-Liberty High School, Marge studied business in Tiffin. She then worked as a bookkeeper in Bucyrus and Cleveland where she met Eldon Rogers. They were married January 23, 1954 and they owned and operated a grocery store in Stockport before making their way to Baltimore and Apple Valley, Ohio. Marge returned to Crawford County after Eldon’s death in 1997 where she enjoyed worshiping with St. John’s UCC and the comfort of her apartment where she did a lot of crocheting and painting and kept up on politics.

Marge will be remembered for her exceptional honesty and expecting the same of others. She loved to laugh with others and did not want to be a “crabby old lady.” Her extended family meant the world to her. Sand family gatherings on holidays and apple butter making every fall were eagerly anticipated. Though she and Eldon did not have children of their own, they were able to open their hearts and home with love to three foster children. They also enjoyed traveling and camping, visiting most of the United States and sharing a memorable trip to Paris, France.

Margery is survived by foster daughters, Carol (Fred) Morris of McConnelsville and Mary Mohler of Belpre; brother, Robert Sand; sister, Marilyn (Don) Tippin; and many nieces, nephews, and extended family. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by foster son, David Cain; brothers, Richard, Earl, Glen, Wilbur, and John; and sisters, Marguerite Feichtner and Karen Bruce.

On Thursday, April 1, Marge’s family will receive friends from 12 Noon – 12:55 pm at Wise Funeral Service in Bucyrus where her funeral will begin at 1:00 pm with her nephew, Kevin Tippin officiating. Burial will be on Friday at 1:00 pm in Stockport (Ohio) Cemetery.

Donations are encouraged to be made payable to St. John’s UCC or a charity of the donor’s choice and given through Wise Funeral Service, 129 W. Warren St., Bucyrus, Ohio 44820. Memories and photos can be shared on Margery’s Tribute Wall.
