Margarete M. "Peggy" Amstutz

Margarete Marie “Peggy” Amstutz, 66, went home to her LORD on Friday, May 5, 2023 with her devoted, and loving husband by her side.

Peggy was born on March 28, 1957 in Galion, Ohio to Arthur James & Ruth Ann (Klingel) Stirm. She graduated of Col. Crawford High School in 1975 and married Gail David Amstutz on November 2, 1979. She was a faithful and loving wife for 43 years. During her teenage years she was in Rainbow. Peggy was a military wife and enjoyed traveling, especially while her husband was in the Army. She went to both Turkey and Germany with him. After Gail retired from the U.S. Army, they got involved with Bicentennial Chapel where she participated in the choir, handbell choir, the Flower Ministry, and support staff for The Living Last Supper. Peggy was an avid Augusta GreenJackets fan and, when not cheering them on, she liked doing latch hook and word searches.

She is survived by her husband, Gail of Augusta, Georgia; mother, Ruth of rural Crestline; brothers, George (Dory) Stirm and Andrew (Jennifer) Stirm, both of rural Bucyrus; brothers-in-law, Norman (Debbie) Amstutz of Galion and Kevin Amstutz of Columbus; sister-in-law, Heather (Mark) Thomas of rural Mt. Vernon; and the widow of Lloyd Jr, Shirley (Brown) Klingel of Texas.

She was preceded in death by her father, Arthur; an aunt, Betty (Klingel) Russel and beloved uncle, Lloyd Klingel Jr.; grandparents, Lloyd & Lydia (Boehm) Klingel; and her beloved pet, Smokie “Baby Boy” who provided her much companionship.

All services for Peggy will be on Saturday, May 13 at Wise Funeral Service. Calling hours will be held from 11-12:55 pm and her funeral will begin at 1:00 pm with Chaplain Tim Stiers officiating. Burial will follow in Union Cemetery, Sulphur Springs.

If desired, donations can be made payable to any animal shelter, as Peggy had a big heart for animals or the American Cancer Society. These gifts will be accepted through the funeral home and expressions of sympathy are encouraged to be shared on her tribute wall.
