Manzo Surgener

Manzo Surgener, 88, of Bucyrus is now rejoicing with his Lord in Heaven following his passing on Tuesday, December 27, 2022 at Avita Hospital Bucyrus.

He was born August 18, 1934 in Cawood, Kentucky, and was the second oldest of ten children born to the late James and Maggie May (Beach) Surgener. As a young adult, Manzo moved to Bucyrus to find work and became quite the entrepreneur. He spent 35 years working at Swan Rubber; owned Manzo’s Citgo Service Station and wrecker business; Manzo’s Trash Hauling and was a longtime rental property owner.

Though a hardworking man, Manzo spent many years not truly knowing the Lord until one Sunday his brother-in-law, Marvin Van Buren felt God calling him to get Manzo to church. With God in his life, Manzo became affiliated with First Alliance Church where he served as an Elder and he would go onto assist with pastoral duties at Christian Life Fellowship. No matter where he was or what he was doing, Manzo made it his passion to lead people to the Lord; and he, with God’s help, led a lot of individuals to Christ.

Manzo kept quite busy providing for his family but when he did find some time to unwind, he enjoyed riding his Harley Davidson motorcycle as well as doing some boating at Delaware State Park and Indian Lake. He had a good sense of humor and was always cutting jokes with family and friends.

Manzo is survived by four children, David (Deb) Surgener, Debra (Kent) Miller, Robert (Tammy) Surgener and Christina “Tina” (Pastor Rich) Hurles; seven grandchildren, many great grandchildren and four brothers.

Manzo had married Lula May Van Buren on January 15, 1955 and she preceded him in death on August 31, 2014. He was also preceded in death by five brothers.

No public service will be held for Manzo. If desired, donations can be made payable to a charity of the donor’s choice and will be accepted through Wise Funeral Service. Expressions of sympathy can be shared on his tribute wall.
