Lola Arlene Church, 94, of Bucyrus, was called home to be with Jesus following her passing on Wednesday, May 17, 2023.
Lola was born on January 5, 1929 in Roderfield, West Virginia to the late Edward and Minnie (Dakin) Hopkins. She graduated from Welch High School in 1947 and came to Bucyrus in 1962. She spent a number of years working at The Freezer Queen in Wyandot before being hired at General Electric, where she would work for 20 years before her retirement.
Lola had a strong love for the Lord. Her mornings began with her daily devotions and her days ended with prayer. She was active in church throughout her life, playing piano, teaching Sunday School, assisting with Bible Schools and helping wherever else needed. For the past five years, she’s enjoyed worshipping at the Marion Nazarene Church.
Lola will be remembered by her sweet southern accent. Her kindness shined through to all who knew her. She was the “ultimate mom and Gran” as her children and grandchildren brought her great joy. She loved cooking for, and hosting family gatherings, and she maintained quite a few recipes to choose from when preparing her feast. She enjoyed shopping with family and friends, which led to a lunch gathering for further fellowship. To keep her mind sharp, Lola often relaxed to word puzzle games.
She will be deeply missed by her children, Pamela (Ronald) Rindfuss, Robert Church, and Terri (David) Hite; grandchildren, Rich (Heather) Rindfuss, Steve (Sally) Rindfuss, Lisa (Tim) Wengerd, Shelley (Jaron) Kovacs, Mandy (Scott) Davis, Lydia (Tyler) Hall; great-grandchildren, Samantha Rindfuss, Cpl. Gabriel Rindfuss, Lilly Rindfuss, Robbie Wengerd, Jonas Kovacs, McKenna Kovacs, Cash Davis, Grady Davis and Caspian Hall.
Lola was preceded in death by brothers, Lawrence, Norman, Paul, Harold, Herman, and Arthur Hopkins and sisters, Lonnie McCoy, Hilda DeHart, and Opal Hopkins.
A memorial service for Lola will be held at 4:00 pm Saturday, July 1 at Wise Funeral Service with Pastor Steve Estep officiating. Her family will visit with friends one hour prior from 3-4 pm. She will be inurned privately at Oakwood Cemetery.
If desired, donations can be made payable to the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation (JDRF), Marion Nazarene Church or a charity of the donor’s choice and these gifts will be accepted through Wise Funeral Service. Expressions of sympathy can be shared on her tribute wall.
