Lois Vance

Lois Leana Vance, 92, died Tuesday, November 8, 2016 at Med Central Hospital in Mansfield with her son and daughter by her side.

Lois was born June 18, 1924 in Mt. Morris, PA to the late Glenn and Mabel (Taylor) Pyle. She graduated from Mt. Morris High School and the Ohio Valley General Hospital School of Nursing in Wheeling, WV, becoming a Registered Nurse. On October 11, 1947 she married Everett L. Vance and they moved to Bucyrus in 1954, following Everett being hired to work at Wise Funeral Home. Lois cared for her family as a homemaker but also worked for Bucyrus Community Hospital as a RN for many years before becoming the Industrial Nurse at PPG where she worked for 10 years before retirement.

Lois was always active and on the go. She was a longtime volunteer for the American Red Cross Blood Drives and enjoyed helping out with Bratwurst Festival Bicycle rides. She loved spending time with her fellow Red Hat Society members and was a strong supporter of the Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR). She was a longtime member of the former Epworth United Methodist Church and she was always ready to take in a Bucyrus Little Theatre or Community Concert show.

Lois occasionally played a round of golf and was often seen riding her bike around town but her greatest passion was swimming. She was in the pool whenever she had the chance and this was an activity or skill instilled in her children for safety and wellbeing. She enjoyed rooting for her Buckeyes and no doubt, did so with a cup of her favorite, Eight O’Clock coffee.

She is survived by two children, David (Barbara) Vance of Huntington Beach, CA and Sarah Jane Smith of Lansing, MI; four grandchildren, Matthew Smith, Christopher Smith, Shawn (Jenny) Vance and Jonathan Kimball and five great grandchildren, Tyler and Quentin Smith and Morgan, Dylan and Mackenzie Vance.

Lois is preceded in death by her husband Everett, who died, September 26, 1985; two sons, James Vance and Edward Vance and one brother, James Pyle.

Her family welcomes friends from 11-1 p.m. Tuesday, November 15 at Wise Funeral Service where her funeral service will be held that day beginning at 1:00 p.m. with Pastor Mike Corwin officiating. A private burial will follow in Oakwood Cemetery.

Her family request that in lieu of flowers, any donations be given to the Crawford County Chapter of the American Red Cross through the funeral home.
