Larry Snyder

Larry Snyder, 87, of Whetstone Twp. died suddenly of natural causes at his home on Friday, July 7, 2023.

He was born June 20, 1936 in Bucyrus to the late Kenneth and Carolyn (Wagner) Snyder. After graduating from Whetstone High School in 1954, Larry enlisted in the US Navy where he worked as an Aviation Mechanic in Oklahoma, Tennessee, Kansas, and Hawaii. After his discharge, he returned and helped his dad on the farm. He also met Mary Baumgardner and they were married on May 28, 1961. Larry began working for The Timken Co. in 1963 and retired after 35 years in the shipping center. He continued to farm, helped his brother build houses, and assisted his son-in-law at Greg’s Auto Service for several years.

Larry will be remembered by his sweet smile and kind spirit. He took time to talk to anyone and was nicknamed “The Mayor” since he never met a stranger. He stayed fit by keeping busy in his vegetable garden and riding his bicycle. He also collected farm toys and enjoyed following the Indians, Buckeyes, and any form of auto racing. Larry worshiped at the Whetstone Baptist Church and enjoyed breakfast gatherings with longtime friends.

Larry is survived by his bride of 62 years, Mary B. Snyder; children, Randy (Jeanine) Snyder and Nancy (Greg) Morrison; grandchildren, Jonathon Snyder, Josh Snyder, and Eric Morrison; brother, Edwin (Lauretta) Snyder; sister, Jean Ann (Dr. Steve) Nigh; along with nieces, nephews, and extended family. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by brother, Roger Snyder.

Memorial services for Larry will be held on Saturday, August 5 at Whetstone Baptist Church. Family will receive friends from 10-10:55 am and the service will begin at 11:00 am with Pastor Larry Oxendine officiating. Urn burial will follow in Whetstone Cemetery with military rites by the US Navy Honor Guard and Bucyrus Veterans Military Funeral Detail.
