Karen J. Grey

Karen J. Grey, 74, former resident of Bucyrus, died Wednesday, January 20, 2016 at Akron General Visiting Nurse Care Center following a lengthy battle with Alzheimer’s.



She was born November 11, 1941 in Bucyrus to the late Ervin “Taxi” and Marie (Flexser) Ostermyer. Karen graduated from Chatfield High School and Tiffin University and on February 17, 1973 married Thomas L. Grey. Tom preceded her in death on May 13, 2000.



Karen worked in the banking industry for a short time but was glad to have been able to raise her children as a fulltime homemaker. Once her children were older, she became the secretary at Nazareth Lutheran Church, where she enjoyed 20 plus years of secretarial duties before her retirement in 2011.



Karen enjoyed spending time with family and friends. She was involved in card clubs, was a talented seamstress, enjoyed movies, her weekly hair appointments, and various other crafts and social events.



Karen was a member of Nazareth Lutheran Church and also a member of the Dutchtown Dillies Red Hat Society.



She was proud to have raised two wonderful children, Kay M. Grey of Akron and Kevin C. (Lindsey) Grey of Powell. Karen is survived by three grandchildren, Kinsley Claytor and Emily and Ryan Grey.



In addition to her husband, Karen is preceded in death by an aunt and uncle whom she was very close with, Ruth and Donald Gestenslager.



Her family will receive friends from 1-2 p.m. Saturday, January 23 at Nazareth Lutheran Church where her funeral service will begin that day at 2:00 p.m. with Pastor Tom Pairan officiating. Burial will follow in Nazareth Lutheran Cemetery.



Memorial contributions may be given to the Alzheimer’s Association through the funeral home or left during the day of the service at the church. Memories are encouraged to be shared by visiting her Tribute Wall.
