Judith A. “Judy” Short, 82, died Saturday, January 3, 2026 at Gallion Community Hospital after years of failing health.
She was born May 25, 1943 in Bucyrus to the late Thurman and Leota Ruth (Sites) Gobrecht and graduated from Bucyrus High School in 1964. Judith was employed at North Electric in Galion where she met Michael P. Short who persuaded her to date him. They were married April 16, 1966 and shared 49 years of marriage when he preceded her in death on January 5, 2016. In addition to North Electric, Judy was employed at Bucyrus Community Hospital in Respiratory Services, JoAnn Fabrics in Bucyrus, and LifeTouch Church Directories in Galion.
Judy loved her family dearly and will be remembered as a loving Mother, Grandmother, and Great-Grandmother, as well as a gifted crafter who could sew, crochet, knit along with any other craft she became interested in. Many days were spent gathering with friends at Hardees or McDonalds where she could socialize for hours. She loved Gospel music and formerly attended the Bucyrus Nazarene Church.
Judy is survived by sons, Scott Short, Gregory (Diana) Short, and Dale Short; grandchildren, Ashley Ferguson, Amber Jenkins, Jessica Short, Michael (Macey) Short, Aaron Hensley, Levi (Luke) Gebhardt, Josh Sourwine, and Anthony Short; many great grandchildren; sister, Sharon Vinson; and brother, Robert (Kathleen “Phred”) Gobrecht.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by son, Brian Short; daughters-in-law, Katie Short and Christine Short; granddaughter, Misty Short; sisters, Arlene Wise and Marva Lee Quaintance; brothers-in-law, Bob Quaintance and Paul Vinson; and infant twin brothers, Marvin and Melvin Gobrecht.
All services will be held on Thursday, January 8 at Wise Funeral Service in Bucyrus. Family will receive friends from 10:30-11:55 am and the funeral will begin at 12 Noon with Pastor Joshua Cole officiating. Burial will follow in Oakwood Cemetery.
