Judith D. Leonhart, 83, died early October 1, 2024 at Legacy Bucyrus where she resided after being a long-time resident of the former Maplecrest Assisted Living.
She was born July 1, 1941 in Columbus, daughter of the late Herbert and Roma (Shaffstall) Stuckman. Judith was raised on the family farm in Bucyrus Twp. where she learned the value of hard work. She graduated from Mt. Zion High School in 1959. After working a number of jobs including General Electric, she earned her associate’s degree from Marion Tech and became a licensed phlebotomist. She worked for two doctors, Marion Correctional, and American Red Cross of Central Ohio before retiring.
Judith was a gifted musician. She was the choir director and church organist at Mount Zion Methodist Church for more than 40 years. She also directed the Sweet Adelines Chorus, played piano, sang, enjoyed traveling to fairs and events with her accordion trio, and had the privilege of meeting Bill and Gloria Gaither, whose music she enjoyed. At home, Judy’s flower beds were always welcoming and her meals were delicious. She had a great sense of humor, liked to sew and crochet, watched the Buckeyes, and dearly loved her grandchildren.
Judy is survived by children, Michael (Jennifer) Leonhart, Lori Gonzalez, and Darin Leonhart; grandchildren, Ann (Michael) Leazenby, Kyle Slone, Dominique Gonzalez, Adrian Gonzalez, Charlynn Leonhart, and Josh Denzer; seven great grandchildren; brother, Ned Stuckman; and her dear friend and fellow accordionist, Barbara Cullen.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by sister-in-law, Joyce Stuckman.
Judy was able to gift her body to the Ohio State University in hopes of helping others afflicted with Parkinson's Disease. Her services will be held on Sunday, October 6 at Wise Funeral Service in Bucyrus. Her family will receive friends from 1-1:55 pm and her memorial service will begin at 2:00 pm with Pastor David Smithey officiating.
Memorial donations are encouraged to be made payable to Mount Zion Community Church or American Red Cross and given through the funeral home. Memories and photos can be shared on the guestbook.
