Jodi Sue Gobrecht, 50, of Bucyrus, died Saturday, August 26, 2017 at her home following a lengthy battle with PLS.
She was born June 17, 1967 in Columbus but was raised in Chesterville, Ohio. Jodi was a 1985 graduate of Highland High School where she was proud to have played percussion in the band.
Her family moved to Bucyrus in the early 1990s and a short time later she met John W. Gobrecht who’d delivered the family a pizza. A courtship eventually began and on July 13, 1997 they were married. Jodi spent some time working at Burcliff Industries before taking a job with APAC Teleservices, working as a licensed Insurance Sales Agent.
Her life revolved around family, especially their son, Brandon. Jodi was very active in scouting as he worked his way up the ranks and even after he moved on she stayed involved so the pack and troop would remain active. They spent weeks on end fishing at Lake Erie and she was very influential in seeing that he excelled in his education. Thanksgiving was a special to Jodi as she loved cooking and prepared an incredible maple pumpkin cheesecake. Though Thanksgiving brought family together, her favorite holiday was Halloween. During this mysterious night, she always became Elphaba, better known as the Wicked Witch of the West from the Wizard of Oz (her favorite movie). Jodi or Elphaba, would prepare a large pot of chili for friends and family and bags of candy were provided to all.
Jodi was a member of Good Hope Lutheran Church; she helped individuals when she saw there was a need, enjoyed reading, crocheted and quilted; collected snow globes and loved planning for and battling the swarms of shoppers during Black Friday. Jodi was also very appreciative of her in-laws for raising such a thoughtful and loving young man whom she was proud to call her husband.
She is survived by her mother, Carolyn Sue (Lynn) Smith; husband, John Gobrecht; her son and greatest accomplishment, Brandon Gobrecht; a sister whom she’s close with, Jennifer Smith; two special nieces, Cassandra Smith and Candace (Jason) Knecht; father and mother-in-law, Robert and Kathleen Gobrecht and two family friends she cared for as her own sons, Kory Kirkland and Collin Mosley.
Jodi was preceded in death by her father, Robert H. Smith, Jr. and an infant brother, Mark David Smith.
Her family held a private graveside funeral at Oakwood Cemetery officiated by Pastor Renee Ahern. Memorial donations can be made payable to Good Hope Property Improvement Fund and will be used for the stained-glass window restoration. These gifts will be accepted at Wise Funeral Service who assisted with her funeral arrangements.
