Jerry L. Jerew, 94, died Saturday, November 8, 2025 after months of failing health and taking a recent fall.
He was born in Marion on November 20, 1930 to the late Helen E. (Greshel) Jerew and Howard L. Jerew. Jerry grew up with his siblings in Marion County and Springfield where he met Bonnie Lee Anderson in high school. They were married November 13, 1948 and were absolutely devoted to one another for 62 years until Bonnie preceded him in death on March 13, 2011.
After working for the railroad for 11 years, Jerry got into the car business. He sold for Studer-Perrin Dodge in the 1960s, then owned and operated Economy Auto Sales on East Mansfield St. until he retired at the age of 80. Outside of work, Jerry loved boating, NASCAR, and traveling. Jerry and Bonnie visited Vegas and took cruises among other destinations. While on the water, he loved to water ski and shared the love with his daughter and grandson. He was a fun grandpa who loved to play and roller-skate as well. Jerry was a past president of the Bucyrus Lions Club and formerly served on the Salvation Army board.
He is survived by his loving daughter and caregiver, Tammie Welton; grandson, Shaine Sullivan; and great grandchildren, Carley Giles, Cailin Giles, and Reese Welsh. In addition to his parents and wife, Jerry was preceded in death by granddaughter, Kris Sullivan; brothers, Jack, James, and John; and sister, Peggy Gram.
Jerry’s family gathered privately to lay him to rest next to Bonnie in Oakwood Cemetery.
