Gerald L. Frost, 81, died Sunday morning, August 22, 2021 at his home under the loving care of his family and Avita Hospice.
He was born in Warren, Ohio on April 6, 1940 to the late Joseph and Ethel (Todd) Frost. After graduating from Warren G. Harding High School in 1957, Jerry served in the US Navy from 1958-1960. He was stationed in Key West and served aboard the USS Francis M. Robinson. Jerry returned to Warren where he began working for the railroad. Jerry married the former Dieann Fonderlin in 1962. After being asked by a friend to consider working for the telephone company, he did so and moved with his young family to Lebanon and Ashland before settling in Bucyrus. He retired after over 40 years of service.
Outside of work, Jerry took meticulous care of his homes and yards and did a lot of woodworking, many pieces of which his family can cherish for years to come. He was also a stamp and coin collector and very active in softball, both playing and by umpiring at all levels. He and Dieann enjoyed traveling, including several cruises. Jerry was a big history buff, especially the colonial era, and looked forward to Williamsburg and similar sites. They also had the privilege of visiting Alaska and Hawaii. He was a member of the Moose Lodge 669 and Elks Lodge 156.
Jerry is survived by Dieann, his wife of 59 years; daughters, Tammy (Andy) Schott and Missy (Kyle) Tate; grandchildren, Justine (Brandon) Hill, Dustin (Emely) Tate, Lindsay Schott, and Bailey Schott; great grandchildren, Collin, Braxton, Lacey, Austin, and Silas; and sister, Marilyn (Will) Fiest. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by brother, Joseph Frost.
Friends may gather with family in Oakwood Cemetery on Saturday, September 4 where his graveside service will begin at 10:00 am with Jerry’s sister-in-law, Rev. Diane Fonderlin, officiating. Military Rites will be observed by the US Navy Honor Guard.
Those wishing to make donations in Jerry’s memory are encouraged to make gifts payable to the American Heart Association and give through Wise Funeral Service, 129 W. Warren St., Bucyrus, Ohio 44820. Memories and photos can be shared on his Tribute Wall.
