Jerry A. Price

Jerry Price, 59, of Appling, Georgia, died Wednesday, October 13, 2021 following a three year battle with lung cancer.



Jerry was born August 23, 1962 in Bucyrus to the late Larry Eugene Price and Betty Naomi (Spence) Welge who survives. Most of his education occurred in Bucyrus City Schools but closer to graduation, he moved to Galion and graduated in 1981 from Galion High School.



Following school, Jerry began working in Telecommunications, installing digital switchboards. He worked for various companies and spent several years with Nortel. This work led him to travel extensively weeks to months on end and ultimately, he called Georgia home for the past 30 plus years. He found it to be the perfect balance of whether and scenery. Before his health worsened, he had worked as an electrician for the past five years.



Jerry loved being outdoors in nature and wherever he lived, it was always outside city limits with a wooded area nearby. He loved walking and logged many miles throughout his life. Jerry was always up for visiting yard and garage sales as well as flea markets. He learned a lot of valuable tips and admired his stepfather, Fred Welge’s knowledge of antiques which helped him when searching for potential treasures.



In addition to his mother and stepfather, Betty and Fred Welge, Jerry is survived by several cousins, three of which he kept in close contact, Freddie Groves of Weirton, WV, Jessie Bassett and Connie Groves. Along with his father, he was preceded in death by his sister, Deborah Kay Oehrli.



All services will be held on Tuesday, October 19 at Wise Funeral Service. Calling hours from 11:30 to 1:25 pm and his funeral will begin at 1:30 pm with Pastor Mike Corwin officiating. Burial to follow in Oakwood Cemetery.



Jerry had a big heart for animals, so it would be fitting if desired that donations be made payable to the Humane Society Serving Crawford County. These gifts will be accepted though the funeral home. Expressions of sympathy are encouraged to be shared on his tribute page.
