Jeffrey Scott Ferris

Jeff Ferris, 55, of Bucyrus, passed away peacefully at his home on Friday, March 3, 2023.

Jeff was born August 6, 1967 in Huntington, West Virginia to the late Millard and Dora (Messer) Ferris. He graduated from high school and shortly thereafter, enlisted with the Air Force, serving four years as a cargo worker on C130s during Operation Desert Storm.

With a son on the way, Jeff returned home and began working at Swan Rubber. He started out as a pin and pull operator and worked his way up to union president until the plant closed. He then did some factory hopping until 2010, when Poly Tech opened their operations in the former Swan building. For Jeff, it was practically like starting where he left off. He loved the company, his fellow employees, working with his son, and was currently employed as a supervisor.

In April of 2017, Jeff formed a relationship with Sherry Kincade and on July 23, 2020, they married, and Jeff gained several new and incredible family members, whom he loved as his own. He enjoyed gatherings with friends and family and was an active figure in their lives. He loved the Cleveland Browns and shared many gameday get-togethers with his son, both cheering and hoping for a victory. Jeff enjoyed doing a little cooking and will certainly be remembered for his famous chili. But as much as he enjoyed cooking, he preferred eating and whether Sherry was cooking up something special or they were trying out a new restaurant, Jeff never went hungry. His days were routine driven and at the end of every day, he loved watching his favorite sitcoms, Two and a Half Men and The Big Bang Theory.

He was formerly into riding motorcycles and enjoyed many poker runs over the years. He also had been active in golfing and was always up for taking a car ride anywhere, especially if a restaurant was involved.

Jeff maintained some very close friends over the years, had the biggest heart, and will be missed by many, including his wife, Sherry; son, Zack (Chloe) Ferris; Sherry’s children, who he treated as his own, Chelsea (Ron) Cress, Ian Hill, Megan Ditmars, and Kendra (Kory) Kirkland; his grandchildren, who were his pride and joy, Hatti, Gretta, Fynlee, Theodore, Brenley, and Ron. Jeff is also survived by brothers, Lee Ferris and Marshall (Jennifer) Ferris; sister-in-law, Lawona Ferris; and many cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents and siblings, Tim Ferris, Becky Laser and Carrie Goheen.

Services will be held on Friday, March 10 at Wise Funeral Service. Jeff’s family will receive friends from 11 – 12:55 pm and his funeral will begin at 1:00 pm with Minister Steven Nolen officiating. He will be laid to rest in Oakwood Cemetery where Military Rites will be provided by the Air Force Honor Guard and the Bucyrus Veterans Military Funeral Detail.

If desired, donations would be appreciated to offset expenses and can be made payable to Wise Funeral Service. Expressions of sympathy and memories are encouraged to be shared on his tribute wall.
