Jeffrey D. Brooks

Jeffrey D. Brooks, 81, of the Sulphur Springs area entered into the presence of his Lord Monday evening, November 7, 2011.

He was born May 11, 1930 in Bluefield, W.Va. to the late Jeffrey Jess and Ethel Elizabeth (Arnold) Brooks. Jeff graduated from Beaver High School in 1949 and Bob Jones University in 1954 where he majored in Bible with a minor in English. While attending BJU, Jeff met Marjorie E. Yaussy while waiting tables together. They found themselves on the same bus as they headed home for the holidays. He got off in Bluefield and she went on to Ohio. They began a two-year courtship and were married on June 6, 1953.

Jeff worked at BJU from 1949-1964 and then moved his family to Liberty Twp. He was employed at PPG, retiring in 1992. He was a volunteer fireman for a number of years for Liberty Twp. and former member of Valley View Golf Club. Jeff was an ordained minister, doing supply work on occasion, and served as elder/deacon and Sunday school teacher in his churches. He was currently a member of Bucyrus Bible Church.

Jeff is survived by his loving wife of 58 years; three children, Bruce (Donna) Brooks of Nova Scotia, Canada and their children, Shannon (Adam) Owens, Christina (Josiah) Mendoza and Kyle Brooks; Michael (Carla) Brooks of Michigan and their children, Melissa (Stephen) Springer and their daughter Josie, Tyler Brooks and Jordan Brooks; and Lori (John) Lowman of Ashland and their daughters, Alaina, Deandra, Shannon and Devan Lowman and Lauren (Oron) Wilcox; sister, Andrea (Charles) Breckenridge of New Mexico; brothers, Dan (Doris) and Russ (Joy) Brooks, both of West Virginia; sister-in-law, Shirley Brooks of Virginia and a host of nieces, nephews and friends.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son, Eric Allen; brother, Marvin Brooks; sister, Arissa Whitaker; sister-in-law, Vivian (Kenny) Appleby; brothers-in-law, Harold Yaussy and Oliver Wood and his in-laws, Wesley and Bessie Yaussy.

Jeff will be remembered as a good man who loved the Lord, Jesus Christ, with all his heart. He was proud to have been recognized for years of service to PPG and enjoyed doing a good job in all he took upon himself. Jeff and Marge visited Europe on two occasions and he enjoyed a round of golf with friends, one particular outing was memorable as he got a "birdie" when his slice found the head of a goose that was being a nuisance. While he felt bad at the time, it became a good laugh as the story unfolded. His hospitality was unparalleled as he enjoyed sharing a strong cup of coffee and conversation with friends and family who visited.

The Brooks family will receive friends Friday, November 11 from 4-7 p.m. at Wise Funeral Service where the funeral will be held Saturday at 11 a.m. with Pastors Graydon Cox, David Layton and John Lowman officiating. Burial will follow in Oakwood Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be given to Bucyrus Bible Church or a charity of the donor's choice through the funeral home.
