Jean Black

Jean Black, 90, of Bucyrus, died Saturday, December 17, 2011 at Bucyrus Community Hospital.

Jean was born March 24, 1921 in Bland County, Virginia to the late Gilbert P. and Cora Lee (Crabtree) Hubble. She graduated from Bucyrus High School in 1939 and on October 20, 1940 she married Hugh G. Black who preceded her in death on August 4, 2005.

Jean worked 30 years for City Loan and Savings Co., serving as manager of the Bucyrus branch for five years, and retired in 1985. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church for over 70 years where she was an ordained Deacon, charter member of Gamma Delta Class and taught Sunday School for several years. She was also a member of the Bucyrus Hospital Auxiliary Twig #1, a Gift Shop volunteer, member of the Colonial Club and the Crawford County Community Concert Association.

Jean was always doing things for others before thinking of herself, but when she did find time to spare; she enjoyed flowers and gardening, crossword puzzles, reading, collecting antique salt dips and antique Santas. She loved watching the Cleveland Indians and traveling and spending time with family and friends.

Jean is survived by three children, Phyllis (Thomas) Gossel of Ada, Kay Davis of Dayton and Ralph M. (Al) Black of Bucyrus; eight grandchildren; 17 great grandchildren; sister, Mary Kiess and brother, Robert D. (Dorothy) Hubble both of Bucyrus. She is preceded in death by two brothers, Bill Hubble and Ralph W. Hubble.

Funeral service will be held at 3:00 p.m. Tuesday, December 20 at Wise Funeral Service with Pastor John Cory officiating. Friends may call two hours prior to the funeral from 1-3 p.m. Following the funeral, Jean will be cremated and buried in Oakwood Cemetery at a later date. Her family requests that in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be given to the First Presbyterian Church Deacons through the funeral home.
