Janis L. Keppler died early May 23, 2026 at Mill Creek in Galion where her family had gathered at midnight to honor her 82nd birthday. She was born May 23, 1944, in Bucyrus City Hospital to the late Clarence J. and Hattie M. (Ahlefeld) Keppler. Janis and her sister, Mary Fayne (Keppler) Jones, grew up on the family farm in Holmes Township and raised in the faith as members of the former Pleasant Home United Brethren Church.
Janis graduated in 1962 in the final class of Holmes Liberty High School. She attended The Ohio State University for one year. Janis pursued a recommendation to enter information technology, data processing, and the computer profession as it was an up-and-coming field. She graduated from Tiffin University with a bachelor's degree in accounting.
Janis's employers over the years included Ohio Mutual Insurance, Drs. Hoffman, Birmingham & Associates, Inc., Dr. Ralph Lyon Medical Office, and the Ohio Department of Transportation District 3 office. After she retired from full-time employment, Janis worked contingent and part-time at Bucyrus Community Hospital and Crawford County Board of Elections.
When Janis was on vacation from work, she enjoyed traveling and sightseeing throughout the United States. She was a Beta Sigma Phi Sorority member and belonged to the Crawford County Chapter of the Ohio Genealogical Society. Janis qualified to become a Daughter of the American Revolution (DAR) by finding qualifying information on both sides of the house while researching her family genealogy.
Janis was preceded in death by her parents; brother-in-law, Regis R. Jones; and nephew-in-law Nathaniel Barnes. She is survived by her sister, Mary Fayne (Keppler) Jones; nephews and nieces, Regis W. (Cindy) Jones, Candace Jones (Roy Thetford), Wilma Jones, Jacqueline (Jones) Barnes, and Matthew Jones (Jessie Meier); and seven grand nephews and nieces, their spouses, and children.
All services for Janis will be held at Wise Funeral Service in Bucyrus on Wednesday, May 27. Friends may call from 1-1:55 pm and the funeral will begin at 2:00 pm with Certified Celebrant, Lisa Snyder officiating. Burial will follow in Brokensword Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, Janis and her family asked that you pay a visit and extend a helping hand to a friend or neighbor in need. Memories and photos can be shared on the guestbook of Janis’ tribute page at www.wisefuneral.com.
