Janet E. "Jane" Bower, 93, of Bucyrus, died Sunday afternoon, January 16, 2011 at The Inn at Orchard Park.

She was born July 18, 1917 in Crawford County to the late Walter and Sylvia (Mutchler) Miller. Jane graduated from Holmes Liberty High School in 1934 and on October 29, 1939 married Alton W. Bower. He preceded her in death on January 18, 2001.

Jane was a lifelong resident of Crawford County and was a member of Woodlawn United Methodist Church. She loved sewing and had made quilts for her children and grandchildren. She also enjoyed working crossword puzzles and spending time with her cat, Penny.

She is survived by four children, Allen K. (June) Bower of Bucyrus, Sylvia L. (Larry) Belt of Tenn., Mary E. Rees of N.J. and Rebecca J. (John) Witter of Tiro; 10 grandchildren, Ronald Bower, Susan Bower, Janis (John) Meter, Kevin (Julie) Belt, Krista (Dan) Lee, Kenneth (Sarah) Belt, Jeff (Lori) Rees, Jonathan (Maggie) Witter, Jocelyn (Paul) Esterline and Matthew (Cara) Witter; eighteen great grandchildren; one brother, Arden (Sonja) Miller of Bucyrus; one sister, Anna Sipe of Oceola and numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents and husband, Jane is preceded in death by five brothers, William, Robert, Eugene, Wayne and Junior Miller; one sister, Arline Honsberger and one grandson David Rees.

Her family will receive friends from 2 – 4 and 6 – 8 PM Wednesday, January, 19 at Wise Funeral Service, where funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM Thursday with Pastor Jim Ellis officiating. Burial will follow at Bethel Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be given to Woodlawn UMC or to The Perfect Gift through the funeral home.
