Ivan "Monroe" Earl

Ivan “Monroe” Earl, 66, of Crestline, died December 18, 2021 at Galion Community Hospital.

Monroe was born October 6, 1955 to Doris (Stinson) Earl and the late Ivan Earl on the Craig Air Force Base in Dallas County, Alabama. The family moved to Crestline in 1956 to set down roots. Monroe was a 1974 graduate of Crestline High School and had attended Michigan State University, of which he was a huge fan. As a young adult, Monroe wrote sports articles for the local newspapers for 10 years. He also took photos for his articles. Monroe had worked at the Walker Newsstand in Crestline and then worked at Park Lanes before retiring.

Monroe was an avid reader. He spent his free time at the Crestline Public Library where he would spend hours reading whatever books he could get his hands on. When he wasn’t at the library, he was reading and listening to music at his favorite picnic bench. He loved all music with classic rock being his favorite. Monroe was also a collector of vintage comics and movies.

He was preceded in death by his father, Ivan Earl, and sister-in-law, Christina Earl.
