Isabelle M. McCormick

Isabelle M. McCormick, 98, of Bucyrus, died peacefully, Wednesday, November 7, 2018 at Carlisle Place.

She was born January 20, 1920 in Bucyrus to the late Albert and Carrie Laughbaum Gerstenslager and was a 1937 graduate of Bucyrus High School.

Isabelle worked for a brief time packaging candy for MB Morrisey who owned a candy shop. She also worked in the license bureau at AAA and was a part-time associate at JC Penney. In 1940 she married Lee Stuckman and Isabelle became a homemaker raising their son, Michael. During WW II, she worked as a nurse’s aide at Bucyrus Hospital and a short time later became active in Twig 16. She and Lee divorced and in 1961, Isabelle married Richard T. McCormick. They shared 50 years of marriage until his death in 2011.

Isabelle was a lifelong member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, where she taught Sunday School, sang in the choir, was a member of the Friendship Class and active in Cotta. She took her civic duty to another level by not only voting but working many years for the Crawford County Board of Elections. Isabelle cherished time spent with her grandchildren and she will be remembered for her excellent baking. In fact, her kitchen was decorated with county fair awards received over the years. As busy as she kept herself, she always enjoyed carving out time to watch Ohio State sporting events.

Isabelle is survived by a son, Mike (Sue) Stuckman of Galion; stepson, Patrick (Stella) McCormick of Massachusetts; two grandchildren, Jeffrey (Julia) Stuckman and Julia (Lindsay) Farrar. She was preceded in death by her stepson, Richard McCormick and four siblings, Lucille Haffner, Irene Follman, Don Gestenslager and Betty Brown.

Her family will hold a private graveside funeral at Oakwood Cemetery with longtime friend, Gene Luidhardt officiating.

In lieu of flowers, her family request that donations be made payable to either Bucyrus Public Library or Bucyrus Historical Society. These gifts will be accepted through Wise Funeral Service.
