Ira "Bud" Johns

Ira “Bud” Johns, 77, was surrounded by many who loved him when he died peacefully at home on Saturday, April 28, 2018.

His mother was working when it was Ira’s time to enter this world, so on December 13, 1940 at the telephone office in New Winchester, he was born, the son of the late Virgil R. and Fairy M. (Cress) Johns. Ira was a 1960 graduate of Bucyrus High School. Years later he was introduced to a young lady, Linda D. Nichols and, on May 25, 1974, they married and shared many good times and created wonderful memories.

Bud worked many years at North Electric; a job covering seven states and 57 communities. He was also employed at Swan Rubber, Burcliff Industries, Ohio Foam, and retired from Crest Bending Inc. in New Washington.

Being around family and involved in their lives truly was everything to Bud. He would often say, “you only get to do this once” and he made the most of every experience. He loved traveling with family and they did a lot of camping at various locations at Lake Erie, which occasionally led to a fun day at Cedar Point. Bud also loved time spent in his garden and will be remembered for his incredible zucchini which he used for his bread recipe and other meals. He didn’t like conflict, but he occasionally became vocal against republican ways when provoked.

Bud was a member of Holy Trinity Catholic Church and he liked helping others when he could. He did so at all hours of the day and volunteered with Head Start, where he served on their policy council board and assisted with both multiple handicapped and learning disability classes.

In addition to Linda, his wife of nearly 44 years, Bud is survived by children, Charles “Ed” Johns, Kelly (Jeff) Buckley, both of Bucyrus, Shawn A. (Dana) Johns of Kenton, and Michael P. Johns of Lexington; daughter-in-law, Katie Arnold of Rhode Island; proud grandpa to Eric Johns, Dustin (Amber) Johns, Nathan Johns, Brieann (Brandon) Rice, Owen Johns, McKayla Johns, Camron Johns, Jeremiah Buckley, and Trinity Buckley; and great granddaughters, Aleah Rice and Arabella Johns.

Part of Bud’s heart left when his son, Timothy Johns died as well as his daughter-in-law, Michele Johns and two sisters, Dortha J. Cribbs and Marilyn Bayless.

Bud proudly donated his body to the Division of Anatomy at Ohio State with hopes of helping others. His family will gather with friends from 2-4 pm Sunday, May 6 at Wise Funeral Service, immediately followed by a prayer service at 4:00 pm.

Donations can be made payable to Children’s Tumor Foundation or to Nationwide Children’s Hospital and these gifts will be accepted through the funeral home.
