Iona Foght

S. Iona Foght, 91, died Thursday evening, October 6, 2022 at her home under the care of her daughter Patty and Avita Hospice.

She was born January 11, 1931 in Marion County to the late Francis E. and Sara (Struthers) Patten. After attending school in Claridon through 9th grade, the Pattens made their way to Sulphur Springs where Iona graduated from high school in 1948. It was in Sulphur Springs where Iona met Ned B Foght. They were married on August 14, 1948 and shared 63 years until his death in 2012. Iona worked in the accounting and personnel departments of Swan Rubber for 25 years. After retirement Iona did bookkeeping for Schott Brothers.

Iona will be remembered for her love of church, gardening, and family. She played the piano, was active in choirs, and served as choir director. She had been a member of Community Christian Church in Galion for over 30 years and enjoyed the fellowship of the Keenagers group. She stayed busy while raising her family, enjoying the coffee clutch with neighborhood moms, and served as a 4-H advisor. While she held her family to high standards and was proud of each of them, she was very personable and well liked by those in the community. Iona and Ned gave generously to world missions and enjoyed Florida vacations and weekends at Lake Erie, but she was happiest at home with her beloved pets and where she could tend to her well-kept flowerbeds and property.

Iona is survived by children, Peggy (Roger) Hammer, Patty Foght-Seigneur (Jude Kepler), and Mike (Brenda) Foght; grandchildren, Jennifer Pixley, Michael (Krista K.) O’Connor, Barry (Annette) Foght, Jarred (Teresa) Foght, Eric (Samantha) Foght, Scott (Kris) Seigneur, Patrick (Angie) Seigneur, Krystal (Josh) Sallee, Misty (Ray) Blades, Amber (Cody) Truman, Jesse Foght, and Brandi Foght (Kenny Sanchez); 21 great grandchildren; and two great-great grandchildren.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by son and daughter-in-law, Ed and Chris Foght; brother, Ory S. Patten; and sister, Lillie “Pat” Lynch.

Services will take place on Monday, October 17 at Wise Funeral Service in Bucyrus. Family will receive friends from 11 am – 12:55 pm and the funeral will begin at 1:00 pm with Pastor Dan Turner officiating. Burial will follow in Oakwood Cemetery.

Contributions are encouraged to be made payable to the Humane Society Serving Crawford County, Community Christian Church, or Avita Hospice and given at the funeral home. Memories and photos can be shared on Iona’s tribute wall.
